1. what do our studies of sleep tell us about the nature of consciousness?
2. How would you present your ideas on this topic using “critical thinking”. And by the way, what area of the brain is responsible for “critical thinking” and how does that kind of thinking differ from “emotional thinking”?
3.  How would you go about doing some research in finding out what consciousness “is”?
4. Do you think awareness = consciousness? What kind are we using to conduct this conversation?
5. Are animals consciousness? They are awake, aroused and alert? We do have a problem defining the problem. So let’s take consciousness to be “self reflection”. Do you think your observation applies when using this definition?
6. Class, what do the mechanisms of internal regulation tell us about the nature of our consciousness? Please provide principles and examples
7. Class, what brain mechanisms are involved in emotion and logic? Can we combine the two into better ways of decision making or are we limited by our biological natures?

8. Explain how we   perceive, live and feel.

Write a 2–3-page assessment in which you respond to a series of questions about the field of biopsychology and the brain.

ABOUT THE FIELD OF BIOPSYCHOLOGY AND THE BRAIN.

Write a 2–3-page assessment in which you respond to a series of questions about the field of biopsychology and the brain. Biopsychology, also known as behavioral neuroscience, has become a well-established multidisciplinary study that uses complicated techniques to reveal the relationship between brain functions and human behaviors.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 1: Use information technology and tools to identify information in the domain of biological psychology. â–ªDescribe the different regions of the brain and the associated functions.
▪ Describe the ethical concerns connected to biopsychology research. â€¨
  • Competency 2: Employ critical and creative thinking to evaluate problems, conflicts, and unresolved issues in the study of biological psychology. â€¨â–ªExplain the mind-brain problem.
▪ Describe the origin of biopsychology. â€¨
  • Competency 3: Analyze the research methodology and tools typically associated with the study of biological psychology. â€¨â–ªDescribe scientific methods used by scientists to study the brain. â€¨
  • Competency 6: Communicate effectively in a variety of formats.

â–ª  Write coherently to support a central idea with correct grammar, usage, and mechanics as expected of a â€¨psychology professional. â€¨

â–ª  Use APA style and format. â€¨Context â€¨As a branch of psychology, contemporary biopsychology studies the relationships between behavior and (mainly) the brain. Before this central hypothesis was established, the popular mind-brain questions raised in history included “What is the mind?” and “Does the mind control the brain or vice-versa?” Numerous scientists, psychologists, philosophers, and other scholars answered these questions differently and developed a variety of theories to explain their rationale. â€¨Show More
Action Potential â€¨The brain is part of the nervous system. A particularly important aspect of the nervous system is how neurons “fire,” or act to transmit information. This process is known as the action potential and is governed by several different factors, including neurotransmitters and electrolytes. â€¨Action potentials are subject to several laws. For instance, according to the all-or-none principle, an action potential occurs at full strength or not at all. This theory has been a foundation of the studies â€¨

of the brain and the theory is widely applied in today’s medicine as well as the computer world and the robot industry.

Nature or Nurture?

The relationship between heredity and the environmental influence in shaping behavior has long been the topic of studies. The history of biological psychology development includes the contributions of Descartes, Fritsch, and Hitzig, Helmholtz, Broca, Gall, and Lashley. One of the most exciting scientific discoveries in the twentieth century was our understanding of nucleic acid through the structures and functions of DNA and RNA. The Human Genome Project—a global collaboration of biotechnology— has greatly advanced our understanding of one of the original questions in biopsychology: Nature or nurture?

Questions To Consider

To deepen your understanding, you are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of the business community.

  • What are your thoughts on the practice of psychology? Should a practicing psychologist fall more into the Monism camp or the Dualism camp? Why? How will one view versus the other impact how a psychologist implements therapy? â€¨
  • Consider the concept of neurotransmission, and then apply this concept to the following question:
▪Do you expect one day to have a “magic drink” with a mixture of chemicals that make a consumer “smarter” or â€¨prevent a consumer from neurological or psychological disorders? Why or why not? â€¨Resources Suggested Resources â€¨The following optional resources are provided to support you in completing the assessment or to provide a helpful context. Explain Poverty is a significant barrier to accessing healthcare services by those infected with the virus.

Explain Poverty is a significant barrier to accessing healthcare services by those infected with the virus.

This is the Course Overview: This course is an exploration of the basics of grants “ how to effectively research for them, how to dynamically write to get them, how to methodically research and find funding for them, how to efficiently manage the process to be successful in seeking them, and how to build simple yet effective tools to make the entire process easier. This is intentionally a practitioner course “ this course is about learning how, demonstrating what is learned, polishing the skills learned, and building a toolset to use immediately. This course merges the experience of appropriate and timely selected readings, hands-on activities, discussions, and specifically focused assignments in an instructor facilitated and mentored setting. Emphasis is on helping the student experience and assimilate knowledge and finding rewarding and effective practical ways to be successful. and This is the requirement for the whole semester : 1- WORK PLAN 2- 2- PROPOSAL IDEA 3- 3- NEED STATEMENT 4- 4- GOALS AND OBJECTIVES 5- 5- BUDGET 6- 6- BACKGROUND COMPONENT 7- 7- PROPOSAL SUMMARY * (WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO IS TO WRITE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES): A well-articulated statement that illustrates the synchronization of the proposal goals with the organizational goals- that the goals equal the needs. (WHICH IS THE FOURTH ONE) (I will show you my work plan.) * WORK PLAN: The society is under attack of various deadly diseases that threaten to break down the work force and the economy. The most widely spread disease is HIV/AIDS which renders the victim’s immune system susceptible to various attacks eventually leading to death. Following the increasing rate of spreading of HIV/AIDS in many parts of the world, there is need to come up with a non-profit making organization that caters for the needs of the most vulnerable people. As per the previous researches conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO), the disease is both a cause and an effect of poverty in many societies (WHO). The main aim of applying for this grant is to get funds to create HIV/AIDS awareness in society and cater for the needs of the infected and affected people. This shall go many steps into preventing the spread of the disease and the same time providing assistance to the affected and the infected victims.

THE NURSE WAS DOCUMENTING THE PATIENTS SHIFT ASSESSMENT IN THE ELECTRONIC CHART A BEST PRACTICE ALERT WOULD POP-UP NOTIFYING THE USER THAT THE PATIENT HAD MET CERTAIN SEPSIS CRITERIA.

Response to nursing discussion board (peer). 150 words 1 reference-within 5 years NURSING JOURNALS ONLY.Cleveland Clinic Florida also implemented a computer-based sepsis-screening tool when I worked in the intensive care unit (ICU). While the nurse was documenting the patients shift assessment in the electronic chart a Best Practice alert would pop-up notifying the user that the patient had met certain sepsis criteria. However the program would alert several times a shift for vital signs and laboratory values that were not really alert worthy. This became a significant obstacle to overcome because alarm fatigue lead everyone to start ignoring the repeated false alerts. Many nurses and physicians started closing down the pop-up boxes without really paying much attention to the values listed. Constant pop-up alerts during a very busy shift became a distraction from the charting and a nuance instead of a helpful aid. After a shared governance meeting our unit was able to discuss the matter with Information Technology (IT) representatives. We were able to customize the alerts so that different criteria was required in order to trigger alerts in the ICU. Meaning if the patient was admitted to a regular floor any value that was suspicious of sepsis would trigger an alert so that the medical-surgical or telemetry nurse would contact the physician. But if the patient was admitted to either the Medical or Surgical Intensive Care Units then more specific criteria was required in order to trigger an alert. Chronic low blood pressures or persistently high heart rates no longer set off numerous Best Practice alert boxes in ICU. After all we were aware that most of the Medical ICU was already septic. Interdisciplinary rounds for every single post-op surgical patient in the ICU was a standard practice which meant the patients labs were reviewed several times a shift by several professionals. Also in certain instances where specific values were extremely abnormal in order to close down the alert the nurse would have to enter a password. This meant that the nurse was accepting responsibility of addressing the abnormal value in some way or another. This accountability was very persuasive in making sure that all nurses and doctors carefully monitored their patients results. In conclusion the obstacle to change was overcome in the ICU by adjusting the electronic charting alerts to meet the needs of the unit. Our sepsis alerts did not set off a pager to the rapid response team like you described. This system made every nurse caring for the patient with abnormal values responsible for those values. I enjoyed learning of how your hospital implemented the system. I feel that would never had happened at my hospital because we were always short staffed with patients that were too high of an acuity level to even think about leaving the unit to check on another patient.

Discuss the interaction during this process. For example, how can perception alter sensation?

The perceptual process can be described in seven basic steps, plus knowledge.

  • In your own words, briefly describe each step and knowledge.
  • Consider the flow of information. At what point in the process does sensation occur? Is there a distinct and identifiable point where sensation ends and perception begins? Is the point between sensation and perception located at the same place for all people? Explain.
  • Discuss the interaction during this process. For example, how can perception alter sensation? How do you think attention and interest factor into this process? In 1,250 words, use the sociological imagination by doing the following:
Choose four aspects of your life associated with family situations or relationships such as, marriage, parenting style, divorce, family communication, both parents working outside the home, etc. View your personal situations in the context of the larger society. Categorize your personal family situations according to research and statistics on the family in American society as a whole.
Provide a minimum of three to five scholarly sources to support your analysis and conclusion.
