EXPLAIN WHY PAVLOV’S EXPERIMENTS IN REFLEXOLOGY WERE AN IMPORTANT PART IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY.

The science of psychology has steadily been moving more toward a biological basis during the early 20th century but researchers found that it really didn’t explain all the nuances of human behavior. One of the more famous experiments is the Pavlov dog experiment, which described unconditioned and conditioned responses. James Watson went one step further describing behavior from what then emerged as Behaviorism. It was B.F. Skinner that shaped Behaviorism into its current state, through research on operant conditioning. Behaviorism still didn’t provide all the answers; psychology continues to evolve into different areas such as cognitive psychology.

  • Explain why Pavlov’s experiments in reflexology were an important part in the development of psychology.
  • Describe behaviorism from Watson’s perspective; then, compare and contrast his viewpoints with operational positivism and the prevailing functionalism.
  • What are the major similarities and differences between Watson and Skinner’s behaviorism? From your understanding of psychological principles, which of them had a greater influence in the areas of both research and applied psychology?
  • Psychology seems to have emerged as a science, but with an eclectic view of how to understand behavior. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Is there a difference between the research aspect of psychology and the applied side of psychology in terms of theoretical perspectives?

To support your work make sure to utilize your course and text readings. When asked also utilize outside sources as well. As in all assignments make sure to cite your sources in your work and provide a reference for each citation utilizing APA format.

    CONTEXT

As in acute nursing, emergencies do arise in the community/public health arena. These emergencies can take the form of manmade or natural disasters. Health care professionals have had to increase their awareness of their duty to care during these situations. The need for planning and preparing for these possible events is being reinforced (Tomczyk, et al., 2008). Public health nurses bring specific skills to disaster response. Their roles can range from first responders to policy developers.

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Specific Phobias (public speaking, heights, animals, etc.)
  • Substance Abuse

For your initial post you will take on the role of a cognitive behavioral therapist. Create a fictional client experiencing your chosen disorder. Apply cognitive and behavioral theories to the client’s issue to develop a cognitive behavioral experiment you might use with this client. Describe in detail the specific experiment you would create with your client to address the chosen disorder. Your experiment should include both cognitive and behavioral aspects. Use the first six of the seven steps for designing coginitive behavioral experiments outlined on page 33 of the Combs, Tiegreen, and Nelson article to organize your hypothetical experiment. Your initial post should be a minimum of 350 words.

Lay out the design for two between-subjects experiments: a) an experiment involving an experimental group and a control group, and b) a factorial design with three independent variables that have three, and two levels respectively.

Final Case Study: Consulting for the Caring Angel Hospital
Due Week 10 and worth 300 points
Imagine that you are a senior consultant at Practical Health Care Consulting firm. Your supervisor has instructed you to spend three (3) months at the Caring Angel Hospital to help improve the quality of care, add value to the organization, improve employee morale, design an efficient organizational chart, create a strong team environment, and create the hospital’s competitive advantage. The hospital has traditionally made losses year after year. Furthermore, it is not performing well financially, and the banks are not willing to lend it large sums of money for more effective marketing.
After spending two (2) months within the hospital, you are very happy with your progress, and you think you are capable of acquiring more patient base and expanding the hospital market. However, with a closer look, you notice that your patients are still hopping from one specialized hospital to another in search of various specialized treatments. You also notice that the seats are not comfortable in the waiting area, and the patients continuously show up for appointments on the wrong dates. The nurses and the employees are not smiling during patient conversations, and everyone looks for ways to blame others for failures in the patient treatment process. Everyone seems to work alone and hide what they do from their colleagues.
At the end of the three (3) month period, you must provide a report with your recommended strategies designed to help Caring Angel Hospital achieve its goals.
Note: You may create and / or make all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.
Write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:
1. From a consulting perspective, propose the major steps that Caring Angel Hospital could take to achieve each of the following goals:
a. Improve the quality of care
b. Add value to the organization
c. Improve employee morale
d. Design an efficient organizational chart
e. Create a strong team environment
f. Create the hospital’s competitive edge.
2. Recommend one (1) approach that the hospital could use for acquiring a larger market share given the prevailing financial circumstances. Justify your recommendation.
3. Investigate at least two (2) value-added services that Caring Angel Hospital could offer to strengthen its value proposition. Provide at least two (2) examples of the advantages of these value-added services to the hospital.
4. Use four (4) recent (within the last five [5] years) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other websites do not qualify as quality academic resources.

Many people have no idea of the depth and variety that can come with a degree in nursing.  As examples you can work in Doctor’s offices, work as a school nurse, as a legal nurse consultant, as a SANE/SART nurse (sexual assault nurse examiner), as a Director of Nursing, as a state inspector, and as an MDS coordinator.  You could also work for insurance companies, call lines, and as a hospital nurse you could work in many different specialities such as emergency departments, inpatient psychiatric, substance abuse units, surgical units, cardiac cath units, infusion therapy, medical units, cancer units, and labor and delivery, just to name a few.
