Discuss the New Immigration and the Eugenics Movement

Discuss the New Immigration and the Eugenics Movement

In 1833, Francis Galton came up with the term Eugenics[1] which in other words meant, “Well born”. This was a moral philosophy geared towards encouraging healthy people to reproduce. He saw it best to motivate the healthy people to procreate and thereby discouraging the unfit people from procreating. This move was geared towards creating a perfect society free from unfit people. However concerns were raised by the Americans about the hereditary of the unfit. Many believed that problems affecting the society such as burglary, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, poverty emerged from the unfit people. Otherwise if the unfit people were ‘wellborn’ then these social problems will not have been evident. Later on, tests on intelligence were done on individuals who were mentally impaired otherwise known as the antisocial clique in order to stop them from reproducing. These people were regarded as a burden in the society and the tests would permanently sterilize them from procreating.

In 1927, a ruling named Buck V.Bell was implemented by the supreme court of united states to affirm the 1924 Virginia sterilization bill which advocated for the sterilization of unfit’ individuals. Between 1927 and 1970s, at least 60 000 of Americans underwent the sterilization process[2].Reformers believed that sterilization would result to savings since confining mentally impaired individuals in institutions proved expensive and a waste of time and resources. It meant that once sterilized these individuals would be in a better position of caring for themselves other than causing unnecessary burden to the society. In the early 1790’s, issues related to race, citizenship and immigration were introduced since the process of naturalization[3] was only possible for the white people. Concerns were raised over the Chinese immigrants who had posed threats to the American government and its workers. American detractors argued that Chinese immigrants do not qualify for citizenship because they were docile and immature workers who would slow down Americas independence .In 1882, the Chinese Excursion Act was passed which restricted Chinese laborers from migrating to the United States. This was the first legislation on a national basis restricted a specific group.

Alleged threats posed by new immigrants

The shipping of immigrants in the United States always caused a strain to the economy. It was because of the increasing population that issues of unemployment became rampant. There was a dire need for white collar jobs and accommodation of immigrants to various towns and cities

Mexican immigrants were considered to be unhygienic in the way conducted themselves. They were feared by the Americans’ who opted to deport them back to their country. They were believed to have terminal diseases such as tuberculosis and cholera. However, in the 1920s as the immigrants were restricted and quotas were given for the Europeans the Mexican immigration to Chicago rapidly increased[4]. Consequently, most immigrants were backward and illiterate and therefore America had to spend their wages to involve them in civic education. In addition, some immigrants were not allowed to settle in the American lands because the Americans feared that they might possess antisocial behaviors which may be inappropriate to the citizens America.

Solutions eugenics offer to combat threats

The United States came up with a way of combating threats from the immigrants and this was through establishing immigration laws. The purpose of this law is to avoid further mongrelization or degredation, Americans saw it best to protect its racial stock. They believed that a mixture of racial blood has a negative effect on the individual and thus it will degrade his ideals on political and social values within the society. In addition, the law aims at protecting the society from being affected by immigrants who are barbaric and diseased thus protecting them from crime related activities and pauperism.

Explain any ethical dilemmas that could arise during your advocacy campaign, and how you would resolve them

week 9 by day 3 is the one that is due tomorrow

APA FORMAT 350-400 WORDS

INSTRUCTION FOR THE PROJECT ENTIRE –PROJECT————

Application: Developing a Health Advocacy Campaign

To be an effective advocate and to develop a successful health advocacy campaign, you must have a clear idea of the goals of your campaign program and be able to communicate those goals to others. In addition, it is the nature of nurses to want to help, but it is important to make sure that the vision you develop is manageable in size and scope. By researching what others have done, you will better appreciate what can realistically be accomplished. It is also wise to determine if others have similar goals and to work with these people to form strategic partnerships. If you begin your planning with a strong idea of your resources, assets, and capabilities, you will be much more likely to succeed and truly make a difference with those you hope to help.
Over the next 3 weeks, you will develop a 9- to 12-page paper that outlines a health advocacy campaign designed to promote policies to improve the health of a population of your choice. This week, you will establish the framework for your campaign by identifying a population health concern of interest to you. You will then provide an overview of how you would approach advocating for this issue. In Week 9, you will consider legal and regulatory factors that have an impact on the issue and finally, in Week 10, you will identify ethical concerns that you could face as an advocate. Specific details for each aspect of this paper are provided each week. The Final Paper will be due in Week 10. This paper will serve as the Portfolio Application for the course.
Before you begin, review the complete Assignment.
This week, begin developing your health advocacy campaign by focusing on the following:
Week 10 Application
To prepare for this final portion of your paper:

  • Review provisions 7, 8, and 9 of the ANA Code of Ethics in relation to advocacy for population health.
  • Reflect on the ethical considerations you may need to take into account in your advocacy campaign.
  • Research the ethical considerations and lobbying laws relevant to the location where your advocacy campaign will occur.
  • Consider potential ethical dilemmas you might face in your campaign.

To complete: Revise and combine parts one and two of you previous papers and add the following:

  • Explain any ethical dilemmas that could arise during your advocacy campaign, and how you would resolve them.
  • Describe the ethics and lobbying laws that are applicable to your advocacy campaign.
  • Evaluate the special ethical challenges that are unique to the population you are addressing.
  • Provide a cohesive summary for your paper.

Reminder: You will submit one cogent paper that combines the previous applications (Parts One and Two) plus the new material.
Your paper should be about 10 pages of content, not including the title page and references. Be sure to paste the rubric at the end of your paper.

Formulate a PICOT statement using the PICOT format provided in the assigned readings

FORMULATE A PICOT STATEMENT USING THE PICOT FORMAT.

NEUTROPENIC SEPSIS ( PATIENT’S POST CHEMO)
A PICOT starts with a designated patient population in a particular clinical area and identifies clinical problems or issues that arise from clinical care. The intervention should be an independent, specified nursing change intervention. The intervention cannot require a provider prescription. Include a comparison to a patient population not currently receiving the intervention, and specify the timeframe needed to implement the change process.
Formulate a PICOT statement using the PICOT format provided in the assigned readings. The PICOT statement will provide a framework for your capstone project.
In a paper of 500-750 words, clearly identify the clinical problem and how it can result in a positive patient outcome.
PICOT format is a helpful approach for summarizing research questions that explore the effect of an intervention.

(P) – Population refers to the problem and the population that is effected.
(I) – Intervention refers to will be provided to solve or improve the problem
(C) – Comparison identifies what you plan on using as a reference to compare with your  intervention
(O) – Outcome represents what result you plan on measuring to examine the effectiveness of your intervention
(T) – Time describes the duration for your data collection.

Make sure to address the following on the PICOT statement:

Evidence-Based Solution
Nursing Intervention
Patient Care
Health Care Agency
Nursing Practice

This section involves a discussion about potential barriers you may encounter with the implementation of your project.

Question description

Help me finish my capstone paper. These are the two areas that still need to be addressed in the paper. Below is a copy of how to complete the entire paper in sections. Please help.

Evidence Summary

This involves a narrative discussion summarizing the five scholarly sources that were reviewed. The Evidence Summary should not be an Annotated Bibliography (separate critique) of the five sources. Instead, it should identify the areas where consensus among the various authors of the sources exists. The findings, positions, and recommendations included in your Evidence Summary should be consistent with the recommendations you are proposing for your Capstone project. This section will require the use of in-text citations using each of the five sources. A reference list for the evidence summary in APA format that includes five scholarly, peer-reviewed sources that were published within the last five years will be included in the References section of the paper. Remember, this evidence summary is your preliminary support for your project. Be sure your support is adequate.

and adding more to this section Barriers to Implementation

This section involves a discussion about potential barriers you may encounter with the implementation of your project. This discussion may include ways you plan to address or mitigate the potential barriers.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

NOTEThis section only applies to Education Specialty track students. This section requires a description of the learning objectives and anticipated outcomes associated with your Capstone project. For example, you will need to identify objectives and outcomes if you are planning an education offering, training module, simulation, training exercise, return demonstration activity, new or revised course or curriculum. Learning objectives and outcomes should be articulated in clear and concise terms. In-text citations may be required to support your chosen objectives and outcomes.

Casey is a 17-year-old high school student admitted to the ER with a compound fracture

Casey is a 17-year-old high school student admitted to the ER with a compound fracture of the left leg obtained when falling at the local skateboard park while practicing for a national competition. He has never been hospitalized before. His mother has been notified and is on her way. The EMTs gave him morphine and he reports his pain level as “okay.”
What part of the interview and examination can be done prior to his mother’s arrival?
As you enter the room for the first time, what should you observe as part of the general survey?
As you complete his history, what areas are especially important?
What are the important developmental considerations for Casey?

2. As you recall, our older patient, Red Yoder, with whom you met in Week 2, is preparing for discharge from the hospital since his wound required intravenous antibiotics and wound care. Jon (Red’s son) thinks that Red should move in with him for now, but Red is sure he is able to care for himself and insists that his confusion was due to the fact that he did not have his glasses or hearing aids for the last week. You have identified discharge teaching needs for him. This morning, however, in report the night nurse has shared “Patient is alert and oriented; vital signs stable. Fasting blood sugar this morning is 118. Red had his usual night of sleep. He was up several times to go to the bathroom. Since his catheter was removed yesterday, he has urgency incontinence. He is able to ambulate to the bathroom, but he is weak.” You administer his AM medications and note that he has some difficulty grasping the water cup and needs assistance holding it. Mr. Yoder states he needs to go to the bathroom and when you assist him up to his feet, he seems a bit unsteady. He takes several steps and tells you he needs to sit down.
How much, if any, functional decline has occurred while Red was hospitalized and how will this affect his recovery?
What are the risks and benefits of Red living with Jon and Judy?
What are the risks or benefits of Red living at home after discharge? If services are in place, would it be considered a safe discharge?
Considering all aspects of aging, what are the best and appropriate options for Red at this time?

3. William Smaile is a 65-year-old man who presents to his general practitioner’s office with complaint of right forearm swelling, redness, and pain. He was recently discharged from the hospital where he had been receiving intravenous antibiotics for a respiratory infection.
Subjective Data
Pain level is a 5/10 location = right forearm, aching
Retired foreman at a local industrial plant
Objective Data
Vital signs: BP 150/68, T 37 degrees Centigrade, P 80, R 16
Swelling and reddened right forearm, warm to touch
+ pulses, brachial and radial (R)
+2 capillary refill fingers right hand
What other assessments should be included for this patient?
From your readings, what is the most probable cause of the swelling?
What is your nursing diagnosis?
What would be included in the nursing care plan?
What interventions might be included in the plan of care for this patient?

4. Describe the characteristics of the lymph nodes associated with the disease states listed below: (Choose one.)

Acute infection
Chronic inflammation

Current Information and Communication Technologies

Week 4 discussion

Current Information and Communication Technologies

With so much attention focused on health care reform, it is important that nurses be given the opportunity to use high-quality technology tools. These tools can increase access to vital medical information, promote effective communication among health care professionals, and improve the patient experience. By actively seeking out and adopting these tools, nurses can greatly enhance the quality and safety of care that they provide. NURS 6051 Transforming Nursing & Healthcare Through Information Technology Discussion Papers.

This Discussion focuses on identifying quality technology tools that increase the ability of nurses to provide safe, effective care.

To prepare:

Review the various technology tools described in this week’s Learning Resources.

Identify a recently adopted information, education, or communication technology tool in your specialty area. Reflect on how it is used and how its use impacts the quality of care.

Consider how your identified technology tool might impact nursing practice if it were more widely used. What are some barriers preventing increased usage? How could wider implementation be facilitated?

By Day 3

Post a description of a current or new information, education, or communication technology tool that is being used in your specialty area and assess its impact on the quality of care. Highlight the effect that increased use of this technology would have on nursing practice and discuss the barriers that are slowing or hindering its adoption. Summarize how adoption of the technology tool could be facilitated.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.

By Day 6

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:

Ask a probing question, substantiated with additional background information, evidence or research.

Share an insight from having read your colleagues’ postings, synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.

Offer and support an alternative perspective using readings from the classroom or from your own research in the Walden Library. NURS 6051 Transforming Nursing & Healthcare Through Information Technology Discussion Papers

Validate an idea with your own experience and additional research.

Make a suggestion based on additional evidence drawn from readings or after synthesizing multiple postings.

Expand on your colleagues’ postings by providing additional insights or contrasting perspectives based on readings and evidence.
