Identify three business components (within the broad categories of people, process/facility, or technology) that presented problems for Shouldice Hospital in the late 1940’s.

Identify three business components (within the broad categories of people, process/facility, or technology) that presented problems for Shouldice Hospital in the late 1940’s.

To any person considering the launch of an enterprise, the Shouldice Hospital story is a refreshing reminder of how startups in any field – in this case, health care – can succeed with the right ingredients and passion to excel. This week’s readings include references to a successful startup that grew from the willingness of one individual (Dr. Edward Earle Shouldice) to respond to a recognized need. Your challenge in this assignment is to develop a paper in which you apply the principles of capacity management and illustrate the impact of forecasting on the implementation of those principles, based on the following scenario:

You and two of your closest colleagues are considering the launch of a start-up and you believe that the Shouldice success story is relevant to your new venture. Generate responses to several categories of probing questions as a basis for discussion. Since your findings will be presented in a practical format to enlighten the thinking of your two potential future partners, you may forego the formality of a case analysis in favor of a document that provides clear, accurate, and actionable responses to the questions listed below. In addition to this week’s readings, you may also use popular sources related to the Shouldice case to amplify the points you wish to emphasize in your discussion with your colleagues. If, during your writing, you discover additional areas of importance that are not triggered by these questions, feel free to include them in your paper.

Identify three business components (within the broad categories of people, process/facility, or technology) that presented problems for Shouldice Hospital in the late 1940’s. Define steps that your startup team might take to avoid similar problems when your service or product is launched.
Determine the value of an accurate forecast in terms of its influence on quality of service delivery and/or potential growth for your start-up. In what ways would an accurate forecast of hernia repair demand influence business decisions at Shouldice?
Examine the demographics of Shouldice patients, such as their overall health, type of surgery required, age, etc. What target-market demographics will enhance the success of your start-up?
How do you know when to stop growing your start-up? How might Shouldice have determined a practical limit to economies of scale? At what point should Shouldice have decided to stop growing? What metrics should be monitored to determine that growth has plateaued?
Support your assignment with at least three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

Length: 5-7 pages, not including assignment coversheet, title page, and reference page(s). Use topic section headings for each of the questions listed above.

Your response should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should also reflect professional business writing and current APA standards.

Explain ways of determining whether loved ones have a problem with drugs using the current DSM characteristics of substance use disorders

 Psychology homework help

  • Assignment 1: LASA 2—Prevention Strategies
Treatment programs cannot always be 100% effective, and many substance abusers relapse into drug abuse after days, months, or even years of sobriety. With the marginal success of treatment programs, it is even more important that people never start using drugs. As such, prevention strategies are of utmost importance.Case Study Part III

Aaliyah had been taking amphetamines regularly for two months and had been experiencing the physiological, psychological, and toxic effects of chronic amphetamine use. She had started drinking alcohol to help her sleep at night.

One morning she was driving to work and feeling the effects of a hangover from the night before. She was not concentrating on the road, and ran into the back of a car that had stopped in front of her. Luckily, none of the people involved in the accident was seriously injured.

This incident served as a “wake up call” for Aaliyah, and she decided to get help for her problems. However, because she is now using both amphetamines and alcohol, she is not sure what treatment program to enter.

Aaliyah would like to help other people avoid the troubles caused by drugs. She would like to give a presentation at her college to discuss her experiences and give students several prevention options, as well as ways to tell if their friends or loved ones have a drug problem.

Review the case study. Using your module readings and the Argosy University online library resources, research methods of increasing awareness about substance abuse and dependence.

Develop a PowerPoint presentation including the following:

    • Identify and describe two prevention strategies.
    • Explain ways of determining whether loved ones have a problem with drugs using the current DSM characteristics of substance use disorders.
    • Address the effectiveness of current treatment strategies in the United States.
    • Explain polysubstance abuse.
    • Address the possible treatment options and treatment difficulties for someone who is dependent on two substances.
    • Develop an 8–10-slide presentation (complete with speakers notes) in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Be sure to include a title slide and a list of references. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M5_A1.ppt. By the due date assigned, deliver your assignment to the Submissions Area .

The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s death panel so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their level of productivity in society, whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.] Effective strategy to oppose Democrats’ plans for health care reform or unethical scaremongering?
· Reflect on what informs your judgment: commitment to advance care planning, analysis of facts, and/or political party loyalties?
· Is it right for nurses to endorse health reform legislation even if the legislation is not perfect? Does this apply to the recently failed American Health Care Act?

PSY LEARNERS – ADDITIONAL REQUIRED READINGS
In addition to the other required unit readings, PSY learners are also required to read Percy, Kostere, and Kostere’s 2015 article, “Generic Qualitative Research in Psychology,” from The Qualitative Report, volume 20, issue 2, pages 76–85. This article summarizes the goals of the generic qualitative approach and how it differs from phenomenology. It provides details regarding generic qualitative design data collection and analysis.
Heuristics
Heuristics is a research model that places special emphasis on knowing through the self, by becoming one with the topic and experiencing it, as it exists in the world. Eric Craig (1978) defines heuristics in his work The Heart of the Teacher as: “A private discovery oriented approach to understanding how individuals experience themselves and their world” (p. 22). What has been said about phenomenology in general is applied to the heuristic approach as well, and now the researcher himself or herself becomes one of the participants. In most heuristics texts, the researcher and the participants are called co-researchers.There are two focusing or narrowing elements of heuristic inquiry within the larger framework of phenomenology. First, the researcher must have personal experience with and an intense interest in the phenomenon under study and be willing to be a participant (co-researcher in his or her own study). Second, the other participants (co-researchers) must share an intensity of experience with the phenomenon.PSY learners who are considering the use of heuristics as the research methodology should complete the following:
Read Douglass and Moustakas’s 1985 article, “Heuristic Inquiry: The Internal Search to Know,” from Journal of Humanistic Psychology, volume 25, issue 3, 39–55.
Read Moustakas’s 1990 e-book, Heuristic Research.

demonstrate this, we will take the topic of natural disasters and look at two YouTube videos.

This week we are looking at the stress upon children and their families during natural disasters as well as how trauma impacts children, families, and communities. To demonstrate this, we will take the topic of natural disasters and look at two YouTube videos.

· The first is a New Zealand/Japan Earthquake/Tsunami Relief Awareness Video, and it is found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhsQzy4LMQA  (Eyeshine, 2011)

· We will then go to Riku’s story http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8QHjhEsU5w (Save the Children USA, 2011) He is from Japan, and the translation does distract a bit, so you will have to concentrate more on this. It is important to look at his face during the interview. The transcript of the video is attached below.

Using the information you gained from the reading this week as a guide, what services and resources do you think should be available for children and families after an Earthquake /Tsunami and other natural disasters? Specifically look at this from a child’s view, so school and peers will be important.
· Align your posting to the forum rubric and make sure you use APA format in your references and citations.
