UNIT 9 ASSIGNMENT 1
· Diagnostic Skill Application II
For this assignment, you are provided with four video case studies (linked in the Resources). Review the cases of Julio and Kimi, and choose either Reese or Daneer for the third case.
Review these two videos:
· The Case of Julio:
Julio is a 36-year-old single gay male. He is of Cuban descent. He was born and raised in Florida by his parents with his two sisters. He attended community college but did not follow through with his plan to obtain a four-year degree, because his poor test taking skills created barriers. He currently works for a sales promotion company, where he is tasked with creating ads for local businesses. He enjoys the more social aspects of his job, but tracking the details is challenging and has caused him to lose jobs in the past. He has been dating his partner, Justin, for five years. Justin feels it is time for them to commit and build a future. Justin is frustrated that Julio refuses to plan the wedding and tends to blame Julio’s family. While Julio’s parents hold some traditional religious values, they would welcome Justin into the family but are respectfully waiting for Julio to make his plans known. Justin is as overwhelmed by the details at home as he is at work.
· The Case of Kimi:
Kimi is a 48-year-old female currently separated from her husband, Robert, of 16 years. They have no children, which was consistent with Kimi’s desire to focus on her career as a sales manager. She told Robert a pregnancy would wreck her efforts to maintain her body. His desire to have a family was a goal he decided he needed to pursue with someone else. He left Kimi six months ago for a much younger woman and filed for divorce. Kimi began having issues with food during high school when she was on the dance team and felt self-conscious wearing the form-fitting uniform. During college, she sought treatment because her roommate became alarmed by her issues around eating. She never told her parents about this and felt it was behind her. Her parents are Danish and value privacy. They always expected Kimi to be independent. Her lack of communication about her private life did not concern them. They are troubled by Robert’s behavior and consider his conspicuous infidelity as a poor reflection upon their family. Kimi has moved in with her parents while she and Robert are selling the house, which has upended the balance in their relationship.
For a third case, choose one of these videos:
· The Case of Reese:
Reese is a 44-year-old married African American female. Her parents live in another state, and she is their only child. Her father is a retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel who was stationed both in the United States and overseas while Reese was growing up. She entered the Air Force as soon as she graduated high school at age 17 and has achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. She has been married 15 years to John, and they recently discovered she is pregnant. The unexpected pregnancy has been quite disorienting for someone who has planned and structured major decision her entire life. Reese is fiercely loyal to her extended family and frequently travels to help her parents care for her aunts, uncles, and cousins whenever they experience hardships. Her efforts are not always appreciated, because she offers very specific guidance and is easily frustrated by their lack of follow through.
· The Case of Daneer:
Daneer is a 50-year-old male. He emigrated to the United States from Serbia with his parents and older brother when he was four years old. Daneer and his brother were harshly disciplined by their parents when they failed to follow family rules or did not live up to their standards. It was not unusual for his parents to refuse to speak to the boys for days when their grades were low. Daneer’s parents are practicing Muslims, but Daneer rejected their faith when he reached adulthood. His relationship with his parents and brother are strained by his tendency to alternate between being a doting son and lashing out when they rebuke his lifestyle. They disapprove of his life choices that are inconsistent with their religious beliefs. Daneer was briefly married in his 20s, but his wife left him after six months and filed an order of protection. He was briefly hospitalized after a serious suicide attempt shortly after his marriage ended. He has worked several jobs as a waiter and often quits before he is fired due to conflicts with other staff.

Instructions
For each case, you will complete a diagnostic analysis you select from the list of assessment tools provided late in this assignment. Each case requires the following information to be addressed:
· Describe presenting concerns and relevant history.
· Explain what information is still needed to make a differential diagnosis and evaluate how at least one assessment tool, which is listed in the List of Assessment Tools resource, will aid in obtaining that information. The Differential Diagnosis Decision Tree may be helpful to guide this process.
· Present DSM-5 and ICD-10 codes including relevant V and Z codes. Assume that the client has presented for treatment with their partner or parents.
· Provide a descriptive rationale for the DSM diagnosis that best fits the information provided, including relevant ICD codes. This should be written in a narrative form using complete sentences. Support your rationale with scholarly sources. Optional readings found in the course syllabus may be particularly relevant.
· Describe indications or contraindications that help determine whether a medication consultation is appropriate, and provide rationale with support from scholarly sources.

HCA 383 Biostats Lab Assignment 2

HCA 383 Biostats Lab Assignment 2

This assignment is due by 11:59 pm, April 5th, 2018.

Important: Please make sure you are using the right dataset in each question. Datasets will be referred to by their names in each question.

Wherever necessary, variables associated with any part of the analysis will be mentioned by their names as they appear in the dataset and will be enclosed in parentheses; for example: How many people are Hispanic in the sample (RACE). This means you need to perform the relevant procedures using a variable called RACE.

When you produce SPSS output in your response make sure you submit only the relevant part of the output. SPSS produces a lot of information that you do not need to submit. SPSS output can be copied and pasted into a Word document. But remember, submit only the relevant part of the output!

Be sure to assign missing values so that you can account for people who responded “don’t know” or refused to answer the question.  Steps are given below.

1. Use the dataset you created in Assignment 1 to answer the following questions: [Create it again if you did not save it—more practice!]

(a) What percentage of the individuals in the sample did not have private or public insurance? (INS_TYPE). (2 points)

(b) What is the average age of the individuals in the sample? (AGE). (2 points)

(c) What is the total percentage of respondents who were either unsatisfied or very unsatisfied with the services? (PTN_SAT). (2 points)

(d) What percentage of the sample did not graduate from high school? (EDUC) (2 points)

2. Collection of patient data

Each time a patient enters a health care facility seeking care for him/herself there is a certain amount of data that is collected from each patient.  Some of this data are quantitative data and some data are qualitative data.

(a)  What are the differences between quantitative data and qualitative data?  (4 points)

(b)  Give three examples of each type of data that are collected in a health care encounter (that is: when a person goes to see the health provider). (3 points)

(c) State at least THREE different techniques that can be used in the collection of SURVEY data. (3 points)

3. Use the dataset named “webhealth.sav” (located in the Blackboard Datasets folder) for this part of the assignment:

First, follow these steps to assign missing values: Let’s use the ‘inc’ variable as an example.

· Go to the Variable View of your dataset

· Look for “Missing” column next to the “Values” column

· Scroll down until you find the “inc” variable

· Click on the “Values” for that variable and look at what are all the values are and then identify what numbers should be used as the missing values for this variable.

· Click on None in the Missing column for that variable and add the two discrete values for the missing (each number in its own box).

· Click ok.

Now here are the questions you need to answer.

(a) What percentage of the respondents were residents of suburban area? (usr). (2 points)

(b) What is the difference between the “Percent” and Valid Percent” columns on SPSS output?  Give a reference for your answer. (3 points)

(c) Find out what weekly frequency of using internet or email from home is represented by 21.3% of the respondents and 5.4%? (q8a). (3 points)

(d) What percentage of the respondents have ever used their cell phones to access health or medical information? (q15). (2 points)

(f) What is the average age of the respondents? What is the range of their age? (age).  Be sure to exclude data that is missing. (2 points)  Look this up under the values for age and assign missing values for the age variable using the steps you used previously.

(g) What is total percentage of persons who were in school (either as full-time or part-time students)? (stud) (2 points)

Best wishes.

Traumatic Brain Injury: Jefferson’s Case

Assignment 2: Traumatic Brain Injury: Jefferson’s Case

When new parents are expecting a baby, they rarely consider the possibility that the baby could have significant challenges. For those who have children with severe, multiple disabilities, planning for the future is a critical, lifelong process and requires considerable investments of time and effort, while potentially causing significant stress to the parents. With advances in our understanding, there are many more resources available to children and families than there were previously.
Review the following scenario:

Jefferson is a six-year-old boy in kindergarten. He has suffered from cerebral palsy and a severe seizure disorder since he was an infant, resulting in significant physical and cognitive impairment. Although he has received services and support through early childhood intervention (ECI) services, as he enters formal schooling, his parents have become increasingly concerned about his future. Jefferson spends most of his time in a wheelchair and uses a special touchscreen augmentative communication device. In addition to their concerns about the future, Jefferson’s father also harbors considerable guilt that he or his wife might have caused their son’s disabilities.

Based on your research, respond to the following:

  • Summarize research related to the influence of nature versus nurture on the cause of Jefferson’s disabilities.
  • Provide a hypothesis of Jefferson’s likely prognosis. What supports or services might maximize this outcome?
  • Evaluate what Jefferson’s future might have been if he were being raised in the U.S. in the 1940s.

Write a 3–5-page paper in Word format (not counting the title and reference pages). Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Be sure to include a title page and reference page, also in APA format. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M4_A2.doc.
By the due date assigned, deliver your assignment to the Submissions Area.
Assignment 2 Grading CriteriaMaximum PointsSummarized research related to the influence of nature versus nurture on Jefferson’s disabilities.8Provided a hypothesis of Jefferson’s likely prognosis and the support or services that might maximize this outcome.40Evaluated how Jefferson’s future would have been different if he were being raised in the U.S. in the 1940s.32Wrote in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrated ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; displayed accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.20Total:100

you will be researching an historical figure in the public health world, their contribution to public health, and how their work helped shape the public health system

Health Research Paper

you will be researching an historical figure in the public health world, their contribution to public health, and how their work helped shape the public health system. Furthermore, you will be analyzing how their contribution from the past continues to contribute to today’s public health system and how it might guide future work within the industry.

Follow this outline to help formulate your paper or presentation:

ACTION:  Write a paper about this historical figure and their associated public health topic

Franklin D. Roosevelt/Health care administration

ACTION: Research the individual’s background

GRADED ELEMENT: Describe your selected person’s biographical background (i.e. experience).

HELP: This can include resume elements such as birthdate, location, education, and brief statement of their contribution to public health. (Reminder: biographical information can be easily plagiarized. Please do not copy from your biographical websites. Paraphrase and/or quote and cite everything according to APA.)

ACTION: Research the barriers and issue of the time

GRADED ELEMENT: Analyze the climate of the time period in terms of political, socioeconomic, environmental and technological context in which this person worked

HELP: Think about whether this person was up against resistance or was their work welcomed. [For example, if you were writing on Abraham Lincoln and the abolition of slavery, you would note that slavery was prevalent and accepted at the time and the change was welcomed by some and rejected by others]

GRADED ELEMENT: Examine the personal beliefs of your person that prompted this work.

HELP: You are basically addressing the question: “Why did this person get involved with the issue at the time?” [In continuing the Lincoln example above, you would note that black people were considered property, not people; yet Lincoln believed everyone had equal rights regardless of skin color].

ACTION: Think about how this person overcame the barriers and issues

GRADED ELEMENT: Examine how this individual overcame and/or confronted any adversities to succeed in his/her task

HELP: Questions to consider: What did the person specifically do? Did they have any allies? How did their actions succeed/fail?

ACTION: Think about the importance of the contribution to community/public health at the time

GRADED ELEMENT: Describe the final outcome of this individual’s contribution to community and/or public health

HELP: Think about this question: What occurred as a result of this person’s action?

GRADED ELEMENT: Explain what his/her contribution did for overall community and/or public health at the time

HELP: Think about this question: What was the purpose for the community and/or nation? [In the Lincoln example, the explanation would involve a national recognition of human rights of all people, regardless of skin color]

GRADED ELEMENT: Explain why this contribution was so important at that particular point in history

HELP: Think about this question: What made this important for our nation? [In the Lincoln example, you would answer the question: Why was it so important that Lincoln freed the slaves?]

. Compose a one-paragraph narrative that summarizes what you are depicting in the Ecomap for your hypothetical child or teen.

Please can you do this Unit 1 – Discussion 1 & 2? $35.00 Due (Tuesday) 7/10/2018.
Unit 1 Discussion 1
Evaluating Childhood Experiences and Resiliency
Read the Discussion Participation Scoring Guide to learn how the instructor will evaluate your discussion participation throughout this course.
As you study children and adolescents, you will likely recollect your own formative experiences, whether supportive or stressful, and begin to see them through new eyes. Using your text and the assigned readings for this unit, evaluate:
1. The influence of your own acculturative experiences—including socioeconomic, religious, and cultural experiences—on your conceptions of mentally healthy children and adolescents.
2. The factors that promoted your own resilience and mental health (for example, prevention, intervention, education, and advocacy efforts; programs and networks of services) as you were growing up.
Use specific examples to illustrate your conclusions.
Resources
· Discussion Participation Scoring Guide.
Unit 1 Discussion 2
Create a Background Sketch and Ecomap
Preparation for this Discussion involves two parts: 1. Background Sketch, and 2. Prepare an Ecomap.
Background Sketch: Create a background sketch for a hypothetical child or adolescent for whom you might provide clinical mental health counseling services. As you create your background sketch, consider and include some of the common contextual issues that children or teens face today that were reviewed in Chapter 1 of your text. Consider also the developmental stages and tasks discussed in Chapter 2 and the introduction to this unit that would be important for your child; consider cultural factors, as well.
The background sketch should be brief. There are many examples of brief background sketches in Counseling Children in the introductions to the case studies offered throughout (for example, see page 195). In your discussion post, use headings in the format below:
Case 1: [Your Child’s Pseudonym]
· Identification of the Problem—A brief summary of why adults are concerned about this child and why a referral for counseling has been made.
· Individual and Background Information—Briefly identify developmental stages, neurobiological, personality, and health information about your child, using these categories.
· Academic Background—Where is the child in school? Is there a history of academic problems?
· Family and Cultural Background—With whom does the child live? What cultural influences are important?
· Physical Health—Is the child well? Are they any physical problems or disabilities?
· Social Adjustment—How does the child get along with peers and others outside of the family? Are normal social milestones being reached?
Prepare an Ecomap: Refer to the graphic, Designing an Ecomap, linked in Resources, from this unit’s first study. Draw an Ecomap for the hypothetical child or teen for whom you created the background sketch, depicting:
1. The systems and factors where there are stressors.
2. The programs, networks, and relationships that provide support, such as those discussed in Chapters 1 and 2 of your text.
3. Compose a one-paragraph narrative that summarizes what you are depicting in the Ecomap for your hypothetical child or teen.
In this Discussion, prepare a post that includes your background sketch and the narrative description of your Ecomap for your hypothetical client. Upload your Ecomap as an attachment to your post.
