systems theory

For this week’s Discussion, you identify an issue or process that could be improved and apply knowledge and strategies related to systems theory.
Note: You may find it helpful to view the Assignment instructions and use the same problem for this Discussion.
To prepare:
· Review the information presented in this week’s Learning Resources on systems theory and the difference between open and closed systems.
· Reflect on the practices and processes with which you are familiar in your organization. Identify one problematic issue or process that could be improved.
· Consider the problem from a closed-system perspective. Then think about how the issue or process you selected could be addressed by viewing it from an open-system perspective. How would the transition from a closed- to an open-system view help you and others to address the problem and improve outcomes?
Post a description of the problem that you identified in your selected organization. Explain the problem from a closed-system perspective. Then, describe how the problem could be addressed by viewing it from an open-system perspective, and explain how this modification would help you and others improve health care outcomes

What are the issues associated with addressing ethical issues when you are a trainee in a practice setting? What resources are available to you to resolve issues you may encounter during your field experiences? Is there value in considering alternative ethical codes that may apply to you (i.e., APA and NASP)? Explain.
Read the “Numbers Can be Worth a Thousand Pictures: Individual Differences in Understanding Graphical and Numerical Representations of Health-Related Information” article prior to answering. Informed decision making in the mental health and medical professions requires the ability to understand and effectively communicate statistical information.  For this discussion, address the following in your post:

  • Select one mental health disorder of your choice based on a valid diagnostic category in the DSM-5.
  • Research the disorder and locate relevant statistics obtained within the past 7 years regarding overall prevalence, gender and age differences, and treatment options.
  • Present this information in the discussion forum in two formats: Format 1 for individuals with high graph literacy; Format 2: for individuals with low graphic literacy but high numerical literacy.  Information regarding each of these two formats is discussed in the assigned article.
  • Be sure to include your references in your discussion post, that are formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Examine the case of Baby Boy Doe (Darr, 2011, p. 16.) The objective of this assignment is to get you to think critically about real-life ethical dilemmas and the moral principals involved

Assignment Instructions

Examine the case of Baby Boy Doe (Darr, 2011, p. 16.) The objective of this assignment is to get you to think critically about real-life ethical dilemmas and the moral principals involved. There is no right or wrong answer, just try to look at this case subjectively. Most of the time, resolving ethical dilemmas is not so “black and white.” Discuss arguments for and against the issues below

1. Discuss what makes this an ethical dilemma (read pp. 3 and 4).

2. Discuss the implications of this study in terms of the moral principles described in chapter 1.

Here are some questions that may guide your thinking:

Respect for persons: Did the hospital/ physicians allow the parents to be autonomous in their decision-making? Do you see any elements of paternalism on behalf of the physicians?

Beneficence: Did the hospital/ physicians act beneficently?

Nonmaleficence: Did the hospital/ physicians consider nonmaleficence?

Justice: Did the hospital act in a just way?

3. Finally, do you think that the hospital did all that it could in this situation? Did it act appropriately? Explain.

Assignments are to be a minimum of 2 full pages of text and 3 reputable references in proper APA format.

From a financial perspective, briefly describe the concept of a business.  List and explain the differences between a business & pure charity.  Please respond to at least 2 classmates post.

Chapter 1:
Q1- From a financial perspective, briefly describe the concept of a business.  List and explain the differences between a business & pure charity.  Please respond to at least 2 classmates post.
Student 1:
Business is depending on buying and selling for profit. When a business is a personal or a company should determine goals that lead to develop the business and focus for the goal. In the other hand, Charity is depending on the provision of a range of humanitarian services to individuals in need. It is also known that a group of individuals, associations and institutions provide support and assistance to people with different needs, such as food, medicine and shelter, and others. Also, does not depend on achieving any financial gain; it is a work linked to good and charity to others.
Student 2:
My theory about business would be, business is a person or group of people idea about making an investment to improve his or their income. Charity is a person or more than one person is opinion to help others with some amount of money. Charity is helping others with their needs, and business is an idea of making more money.
Chapter 2:
Q2- If you could change ONE thing about our health care system, what would that be? Please provide detailed explanation.  Reply to the post of 2 classmates.
Student 1:
If I could change one thing in the U.S. health care system it would be that employer groups, payers, and government systems would all come together to make it simpler for Americans who are seeking health coverage. I am from a rural area in Kentucky and have seen so many people neglect their health because they could not go to certain providers and would have to travel hours to see a doctor in their network. These people know that they need to see a doctor, but may not be able to take off from work to travel to the doctors or may not have transportation to travel that far. This is a major reason that emergency rooms are overflowing with people because they have gone so long without seeing a doctor (because there are none in their network) so they can no longer stand the pain or sickness. I think if all providers could work together and be on the same playing field it would cut down costs and help people get the treatment they need in a timely manner.
Student 2:
If I could change one thing about the current health care system in America it would be accessibility for consumers. Accessibility to health care affects many different aspects of health care, such as health care cost, emergency room use, overall health of the nation, and many others. Many things affect one’s access to health care, including geographical location (rural vs. urban area), insurance coverage, and income. Improving the accessibility of health care can potentially lower total health care costs and even improve the overall health of the nation.

Explain how the evolution of learning theories and neuroscience over time has shaped selected learning controversy.

Write a 5–7-page analysis on a featured debate on learning theory. You will explore how the evolution of learning theories and neuroscience has shaped a current learning controversy.
Learning theories evolve over time. It is important to understand how historical, political, and cultural changes affect learning theories and how we apply them. The purpose of analyzing a current learning theory debate allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of theories, critical thinking skills, and how to apply theory to your own specialized field of psychology.
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 1: Evaluate the strengths, limitations, and applications of the foundational learning theories.
    • Explain how the evolution of learning theories and neuroscience over time has shaped a selected learning controversy.
    • Evaluate multiple perspectives on the selected learning controversy.
  • Competency 3: Apply evidence based research in learning theories to guide decision making and problem solving.
    • Assess the implications of this learning controversy on your area of specialization.
  • Competency 4: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for members of the psychological professions.
    • Write clearly and logically, with correct use of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics; format paper, citations, and references using APA style. I will upload instructions and grading score guide in the morning.

Preparation

Learning theories evolve over time. As we discover more about how people learn, the application of learning theories also changes. An idea that worked 50, 20, or even 5 years ago might not work currently due to a shift in cultural beliefs, new knowledge, or new learning contexts. Anytime there is a change in our thinking it can impact the way we apply learning theories. Many times differing perspectives can lead to productive discussions and academic debates that further the evolution of the learning theory.

Instructions

In this assessment, you will explore how the evolution of learning theories and neuroscience has shaped a current learning controversy.
Select one of the following learning controversies:

  • Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Theory.
  • Learning Styles.
  • Brain Hemisphere Dominance (Left verses Right Brain).

Research the historical approaches for the learning controversy and how this issue is currently being debated.

  • Looking at this learning controversy through the lens of learning theories and neuroscience, what has changed or been discovered that has led to this debate?
  • Analyze the multiple perspectives of the selected learning controversy.
  • What are the arguments and priorities for this issue?
  • Assess the impact of the selected learning controversy on your area of specialization.

Make sure to include the following:

  • Explain how the evolution of learning theories and neuroscience over time has shaped selected learning controversy.
  • Evaluate multiple perspectives to the selected learning controversy.
    • What are arguments and priorities of the proponents and critics of this issue?
  • Assess the implications of this learning controversy on your area of specialization.

Additional Requirements

  • Length: 5–7 pages (not counting your title page or references), double-spaced, 12-point font.
  • Number of references: Minimum of 5 references.
  • Article distinctions: There are three different types of articles. Research articles present original research, review articles discuss research already presented elsewhere, and survey articles are comprehensive review articles that discuss an entire field or area of research. References to books are acceptable, but they should be kept to a minimum—probably no more than five.
  • APA style: You must use proper APA style to cite and list your references. Refer to the Writing Center’s APA Style and Format guidelines (linked in the Suggested Resources) for more information.
  • Format: Use the following structure:
    • Cover page (your name, your specialization or program, title and course number, current quarter and year, and instructor’s name).
    • Abstract (optional).
    • Body of paper, including headings and subheadings over the appropriate content.
    • Reference list.
    • Refer to the APA Style and Format guidelines for additional formatting information.
  • Style: Write in the third person as an impartial narrator. Avoid the use of I, we, or you. In particular, avoid phrases like “I think” in favor of phrases like “the evidence suggests” or “research indicates.” In science, personal opinion carries no weight unless supported by a combination of empirical research and statistical or logical-mathematical inference.
  • Other notes: Avoid long quoted passages from your source texts. Your writing should be a synthesis of your own ideas, in your own words—even if your ideas refer to the original ideas of others, in which case the references should be explicit. Graduate-level writing should be scholarly and more than a mere summary. It should present a unique thesis or at least a significant point you are trying to make, adding appreciably to what is already known of your topic. Your point or thesis will stand or fall solely on its strength—that is, the quality and quantity of the evidence you present.

Cognitive Behavioral Theory Versus Rational Emotive Behavioral Theory

Cognitive Behavioral Theory Versus Rational Emotive Behavioral Theory

Week 4: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

When first introduced, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) was unlike any other therapeutic approach. For years, psychotherapeutic techniques were driven by psychoanalytic theories. These techniques were time consuming, leaving many therapists frustrated with the length of time involved in helping their clients achieve a sense of relief. With the development of CBT, however, therapists were able to help their clients heal more quickly. This poses the questions: If CBT is more efficient than other techniques, why isn’t it used with all clients? How do you know when CBT is an appropriate therapeutic approach? Cognitive Behavioral Theory Versus Rational Emotive Behavioral Theory.

This week, as you examine cognitive behavioral therapy and its appropriateness for clients, you compare it to rational emotive behavioral therapy. You also develop diagnoses for clients receiving psychotherapy and consider legal and ethical implications of counseling these clients.

While cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) have many similarities, they are distinctly different therapeutic approaches. When assessing clients and selecting one of these therapies, you must recognize the importance of not only selecting the one that is best for the client, but also the approach that most aligns to your own skill set. For this Assignment, as you examine the similarities and differences between CBT and REBT, consider which therapeutic approach you might use with your clients. Cognitive Behavioral Theory Versus Rational Emotive Behavioral Theory.

Learning Objectives

Students will:
  • Compare cognitive behavioral therapy and rational emotive behavioral therapy
  • Recommend cognitive behavioral therapies for clients

To prepare:

  • Review the media in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Reflect on the various forms of cognitive behavioral therapy.

The Assignment

In a 1- to 2-page paper, address the following:
