As the head health care administrator at USA Community Hospital, you are required to review compliance reports on issues relating to the ethical conduct of the professional staff at your hospital, patient review registries, and standard procedures surrounding the ethical treatment of patients with HIV / AIDS. Humans are indeed capable of pure altruism. Everyday we see examples of people who do good things for strangers and never stay long enough to get recognition. Someone left a big tip to a waitress just for good service, an old coin worth millions dropped into a collection plate at church, a stranger pays for someone’s groceries and walks away, or even donations made to a charity house without a name. These people did a good deed with complete selflessness and never looked back. There are also individuals who will do a good deed rooted in egoism. Observing someone in need of help can evoke a sense of empathic concern for that person (Maner, 2007). In one research study data states it is easy for someone to help another or perform a type of service when you either know that person, feel obligated in some way, or have had an opportunity to feel compassion for that individual. Prosocial behavior such as: helping, sharing, donating, co-operating, and volunteering is part of our daily life thus good deeds are rooted more so in egoism.

Human behavior can fall somewhere between purely altruistic and egoistic. People in general are a mixture of emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Values and beliefs guide our conscious heart and mind while behaviors connect to it. “a considerable part of human altruism is driven by concerns about reputation” (Fehr, 2003). Wealthy people can feel obligated to charity because they have lots of money, politicians advocate for laws that support their own State because people voted for him or her, and private school students feel they should make good grades because their parents pay for expensive education. These are examples of individuals who feel the need to do the right thing or risk negative feedback. In reflection of the egoistic approach one questions why would someone not want to engage in helping another person or perform a type of service? In one research study data revealed several reasons. An egoistic manner can exist if the person has not been exposed to peers performing such acts. According to one new egoistic explanation, people learn through prior reinforcement (Batson, 1988). If a person has performed an altruistic act and was never praised for it, he or she may feel justified in not repeating one. A lack of empathy can leave any individual without compassion to want to help anyone. Mood changes, behavioral acts, developed personalities are some of the elements that also factor into egoistic human behavior.

Culture can play a role in altruistic or egoistic behavior. If an individual’s upbringing is one that focuses only on survival of self or is raised in an atmosphere in which he or she is not exposed to charitable experiences or helping others an egoistic characteristic is developed with time. Still, if a person’s culture teaches prosocial behavior such as: helping, sharing, donating, co-operating, and volunteering then more than likely the individual will grow with a nurturing characteristic. “…altruistic behavior among humans tends to be deliberative rather than instinctive“ (MONTANYE, 2016). In one final research study, data found that in humans compassion and benevolence are an evolved part of human nature, rooted in our brain and biology, and ready to be cultivated for the greater good (Keltner, 2004).

I King’s challenge us as nurses to continue education requirements and to challenge yourself in new ways by using the three systems. {Clinical Quality} King’s theory can help define a clinical quality problems by, Nurse has to know that communication is the key and trust between patient and nurse is most important. Clinical pathways serve that purpose, where nurses communicate to their patients care and outcomes/ goals with working with each other. Nurses need advocate for a common nursing language (nursing classification and terminology systems) that would unify nurses worldwide. Supported by nursing theory and technology, global communication would be enhanced for nurses and the interdisciplinary teams of which they are a part. Using king’s theory in this experience with a post op patient who has undergone cholecystectomy surgery. As a nurse you ask questions that usually lead to the determination if the patient realizes the risks factors of his/hers that his condition, how he or she understanding of an post op patient .After which, patient and I identified the problem patient lack of interest in ambulation and post op exercises. I as a nurse educated the patient the importance and risks of which may happen if patients not to understand the importance of ambulation after surgery. Which could lead to major complications. We then set a goal which is for the patient to remain free from post op complications. Next we agreed on the ways that we both selected, and I as a nurse assisted him in performing the appropriate actions after surgery are ambulation, deep breathing exercises, adequate intake of food and water to provide adequate nutrition. Which the overall outcome was the patient was free from complications was discharged home. Quality committee align outcome. Using King’s Conceptual System Theory throughout the research, there were limited resources on nursing informatics project management available. . There was an identified need for a nursing informatics, project management guidebook that combined the two worlds. In addition to the combination, links to scholarly articles and professional organizations were also made available. Upon dissemination of the scholarly product to the Clinical Informatics Sub Committee, it was evident the guidebook was well received by the 25 health care professionals based upon attendance, discussion during the implementation, and feedback on the approach. Moving forward, the Clinical Informatics Sub-Committee will create a program to discuss lessons learned which makes the guidebook more specific to the local military hospital. Florence Nightingale. Florence Nightingale additional nursing theory from our readings could also align with an improved quality of practice. Modern nursing is complex, ever changing, and multi focused. Since the time of Florence Nightingale, however, the goal of nursing has remained unchanged, namely to provide a safe and caring environment that promotes patient health and well- being. Effective use of an interpersonal tool, such as advocacy, enhances the care-giving environment. Nightingale used advocacy early and often in the development of modern nursing. There are complex care processes, complex health care technologies, complex patient needs and responses to therapeutic interventions, and complex organizations. There are tremendous opportunities and challenges in improving the quality and safety of health care, but the majority require purposeful redesign of health care organizations and processes. As A nurse you can easy combine the two theories together for quality patient care, most cost effective and the ultimate patient outcome.
