Students King’s Conceptual System Model of Nursing Essay To Comment on

Q. Which theory speaks to your advanced nursing practice? Explain why it speaks directly to your future practice and give specific examples of how you see it fitting into your new role.

Personally, King’s Conceptual System Model spoke the most to my practice both currently as a registered nurse in a Family Practice setting and a future advanced practice nurse (Whetsell, Gonzalez & Moreno-Fergusson, 2018). Her goal of accomplishing with this model was for “happiness and flourishing” (Whetsell et al., 2018). Therefore, she had a more holistic approach considering, human beings and their surrounding circumstances (Whetsell et al., 2018). She concluded that a conceptual model included: “conceptual systems, personal system, interpersonal system, social system, …authority, body image, decision making, growth and development, etc…”(Whetsell et al., 2018).

An article I came across in my search for learning more about this theory, studied the interpersonal relationship as it applies to King’s model with nurses and adult patients (Pereira Borges, Magalhaes Moreira, Braz da Silva, Oliveira Loureiro, & Bezerra de Meneses, 2017). This study concluded that by the nurse and client interacting more allowed the patient/client to be more at ease with their care (Periera Borges et al., 2017). It showed particularly, great results in patients who were agitated with bedrest and felt like social outcast, this theory helped them feel valued, desired and heard (Periera Borges et al., 2017). Another similar case study, with Alzheimers patients reports similar results in their outcomes with nurse to patient interaction using King’s Conceptual Model (Ugur, Orak, Agacdiken, & Yuksel, 2017).

The way I would apply this theory to practice, would to take a holistic approach with my patients. This would include, considering all of the issues addressed in this model: body, mind, heart, image, social issues, surrounding stressor, etc (Whetsell et al., 2018). I will take time to listen to my patients as much as time allows, helping them to feel a valued part of their care. Help them to make well informed decisions. This is how I will apply King’s Conceptual system.

Writing and Pronunciation – Including QEP Enhanced Assignment
—Urology and Obstetrics & Gynecology Departments
By the due date assigned you will write 2 reports referring to the departments of
Urology (Genitourinary System) and Obstetrics and Gynecology (Female Reproductive System). For the Urology Department, you write a 2 paragraph report and use that for the script of your Oral Report. For the Female Reproductive System, there are 2 audio clips containing spoken medical terms. See Instructions below for the special directions for this section only.
In order to earn the maximum credit for the written report you need to incorporate at least 10 medical terms for each department, using them in a manner that demonstrates your knowledge of their meaning.

  • Include the major or most common diseases or conditions seen in each department.
  • Include at least three of the principal procedures that are relevant to each department.
  • Highlight pertinent laboratory and radiological diagnostic services relevant to each department.
  • Limit your analysis of each department to two paragraphs.
  • Special Addition of QEP Assignment for Spoken Medical Terminology.
  • In addition, we have something for you auditory learners who prefer to listen for understanding. (This week only!) This only applies to the Female Reproductive Body System.
  • Instructions: click on the audio clips to hear a Healthcare Professional describing 2 patients admitted to your fictitious hospital. One is a patient with a gynecological problem, and one is a patient with an obstetric problem. There are many medical terms used. You are to identify at least 20 (10 from each patient) medical terms, and list them with correct spelling, and a definition in your own words (to verify understanding! Copying a definition can bypass the brain altogether!)  Put your list in an MS Word doc. File and place that into the Submissions Area. (This might push down your other assignments already submitted, but the files are still safely in there and retrievable by your Instructor.)

Assignment

The assignment is a written, individual assignment worth 40% of the total grade for the unit. You are asked to write a 2,000 word essay on the following.

The requirements of the assignment are important. Please read the following carefully.

The UK insurance industry currently has the following life-expectancy forecasts for people in their early 20s: Men, 82 years; Women, 84 years; at least one partner of a couple, 86 years. Thus, most people on the Behavioural Finance unit have lifetime investment horizons of over 60 years. This is what we mean by the very long term.

For the very long term investor there is something special about the stock market. There are strong arguments and evidence that say that the stock market is the best asset class for the very long term investor. This means that for your very long term future you should be investing in the stock market. So even if your future career has nothing to do with the stock market, you still have to know how the stock market works.

Assignment requirement: Write a 2,000 word essay. In the course of your essay you must answer the following questions (not necessarily in the same order in which they are given):

(1) Explain why the stock market is regarded as the best asset class for the very long term investor.
(2) What is the difference between passive investing and active investing?
(3) If you believe in modern finance and the EMH you will be a passive investor. If you believe that behavioural finance can be applied to very long term stock market investing you will be an active investor. Explain why?
(4) Are you going to be an active or a passive…

Prepare a lecture for an introductory health care finance class on types of revenue sources for health care organizations. For each revenue source, explain the purpose of the program, how the organization is reimbursed, and the benefits of the program.

Note: The assessments in this course build upon each other, so you are strongly encouraged to complete them in sequence.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

· Competency 1: Develop financial strategies to address dynamic environmental forces. (L24.2, L24.5, L17.2)

· Explain the benefits of reimbursement programs.

· Competency 2: Analyze the cost and revenue implications for organizational changes due to environmental forces. (L18.2, L12.1)

· Analyze the reimbursement process health care organizations must undertake.

· Competency 4: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for professionals in health care administration. (L6.1, L6.2, L6.3, L6.4)

· Explain the purpose of health care reimbursement programs.

· Write content clearly and logically with correct use of grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.

· Format citations and references using APA style.

Context

Sustainable health care organizations are charged with balancing clinical and fiscal facets of the operation. It has become increasingly important for health care leaders at all levels within an organization to become comfortable with financial statements and basic accounting principles. As an early careerist, you may be involved in conversations to evaluate existing and new health care service lines. You may be asked to participate in various financial activities, such as team budgeting activities, development of a departmental budget, or contributing to strategic planning or finance department meetings. As a mid or advanced careerist, you may be evaluating higher-level organization financing options, determining cash flow needs, or perhaps presenting financial information to the CEO and board.

Regardless of your position within the organization, a basic understanding of health care finance is a critical success factor for effective and responsible health care leadership.

Questions to Consider

To deepen your understanding, you are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of your professional community.

· What types of accounting are you familiar with? How have you used it or seen it used?

· How can you use knowledge of revenue sources to help in financial forecasting?

Preparation

Look in the library and on the Internet to find resources on Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care. Specifically, you need information on what each program is, how it works, and how organizations receive reimbursements from each. You will need these resources to complete this assessment.

For the purposes of this assessment, suppose you work for a large health care organization that partners with the local college on a number of initiatives. As part of that partnership, you have been asked to be a guest presenter for an introductory health care finance class. You need to explain sources of health care revenue and how the reimbursement process works. You need to prepare a 45-minute lecture on that topic.

There is no prescribed format for this assessment, but you must reference at least three resources and follow APA guidelines. If you wish, you may use the APA-formatted template located in the suggested resources section, but you are not required to do so. Just be sure that your assessment is organized logically and your information is presented clearly.

Requirements

Write a 45-minute (you will not be evaluated on whether your lecture plan is actually 45 minutes in length) lecture plan for an introductory health care finance class. The three types of revenue sources you will cover are:

· Medicaid.

· Medicare.

· Managed Care.

For each of the revenue sources, you must:

· Explain the purpose of the program.

· Analyze the process of reimbursement for health care organizations.

· What steps must be taken in order to receive reimbursement for services?

· How complicated is each step?

· What kind of information is required from the organization?

· How long does it take to receive reimbursement?

· Explain the benefits of the program for both patients and health care organizations.

The length of this assessment will vary depending on the format you use. If your completed assessment is more than eight pages long, you may need to be more concise in your writing. If you have only two pages, you have likely not fully addressed all elements of the assessment.

Please include a title page and reference page, even though you would not include those in real life.

Additional Requirements

· Include a title page and reference page.

· Number of pages: Roughly 4–7.

· At least 3 current scholarly or professional resources.

· APA format for in-text citations and references only

· Times New Roman font, 12 pt.

· Double-spaced.

Why did the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act not include

Why did the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act not include—as the AMA describes—“a federal solution to the medical liability crisis”?

“Leading up to the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in March 2010, federal liability reforms were contemplated as a means of garnering support for the legislation among congressional Republicans and medical professional organizations. Although no liability-reform provisions survived in the final bill, Congress made clear the need for more experimentation. The final legislation authorized $50 million for states and health care systems to test new approaches to the resolution of medical-injury disputes. This authorization supplemented the $23 million that the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) awarded in 2010 for projects to advance new approaches to medical-injury compensation and patient safety” (Kachalia and Mello, 2011, p. 1564).

Case Study
Designing Positive Interventions
Below is a guide to items which are to be included in your portfolio case study. You need to refer to the measures below, and you may also include any additional tools or interventions you may have encountered if you wish. Rather than being a template of how to structure your work, think of this as guidance on what to cover. As long as you include the required content and draw on relevant examples, you are free to present this information in whatever way you please .

You should include the following details:
Name
Area of residence
Marital status
Number of children
Occupation
Religion
The following are presented as an example of how one may present the results:

In order to identify areas where happiness interventions might be useful, (Name) completed a number of psychometric instruments, the results of which are summarised below.

Signature strengths
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Optimism
Scores on the Optimism questionnaire were converted into ‘qualitative’ values – optimistic, neutral, or pessimistic. A hopeful person would be “optimistic” on all four.

Permanent good events:
Pervasive good events:
Permanent bad events:
Pervasive bad events:
Personality
Simple qualitative indicators are provided for each of (name)’s five personality dimensions.

Extraversion:
Stability:
Openness:
Conscientiousness:
Agreeableness:
Approach to Happiness
Finally, (name)’s approaches to happiness within the three realms of happiness were assessed. The results for each realm are provided below, in terms of whether his/her desire for happiness within each of the three realms is low, medium or high relative to appropriate reference groups.

The pleasurable life:
The engaged life:
The meaningful life:
Designing positive interventions
Your task is to identify the sorts of interventions or activities which you feel would make the greatest positive impact on this person’s life, and justify how these arise from the information you are provided with and your further reading. Draw on examples from literature and personal experience. In particular, you might like to focus on the following questions:

What additional information might you want to elicit from this person before coming to your conclusions?
What would be the most important intervention for this person?
What other interventions might you consider, and can you rank their importance for this person in terms of the amount of benefit they might gain from them?
If you were to advise them on a new hobby or interest, what might it be?
If there were considering changing their job, or taking on employment, what sort of occupation do you think would be best for them from the point of view of their happiness?

Section 2: Learning Outcomes
character strengths in four areas of your life: your work-life, your relationships,
your community activities, and your friendships. The portfolio is a
personal piece of work and should be written in a personal, informal style (although this does not
mean you should ignore the rules of grammar). The main aim is for you to reflect on your
experiences of the module, the techniques it has introduced you to and the personal knowledge (in
the form of the results of the psychometric instruments we have used) you have gained. We would
also expect to see coverage of all the following:
Personality and the Set Point
Optimism
Strengths – what yours are, how they are applied, how you might apply them, what limiting factors
exist
Approaches to happiness – PERMA/ABCDE
General level of happiness
Gratitude exercise (reflections on the exercise, not the text itself)
Random Acts of Kindness
You are expected to show how these factors interact with one another in determining or affecting
happiness levels. I do NOT expect just a series of descriptive paragraphs on each of the above,
although clearly there will need to be an element of description in your case study.
A good case study would weave all these aspects together showing, for instance, how optimism
relates to the application of ABCDE + or – techniques, how personality interacts with general
happiness and how it might modify approaches to happiness or the exercise of signature strengths.
The idea is for you to present a ‘whole person’ account of positive psychology interventions.
Although the case study is a very personal piece of work in that it is entirely about you, you should
also try to see yourself objectively – as a person with a particular set of strengths, personality etc.,
and attempt to show which techniques might be used to engineer a lasting improvement in that
person’s happiness. Do not ’ramble on’ about yourself, this is still an academic piece of work and
should be written as such.

Key Primary Texts:
These are the texts we will actually be looking at during the module. You will be expected to read
more widely than just the textbook and direct yourself to texts and articles relevant to your study.
The module will be based around:
Hefferon, K and Boniwell, I (2011) Positive Psychology: Theory, Research and Application. Open
University Press: Maidenhead.
Peterson, C. (2006) A Primer in Positive Psychology. Oxford University Press: Oxford
A terrific introduction to the subject – probably the best book on positive psychology which has
been written to date
Further Reading:
Many of the leading psychologists in positive psychology have written texts explaining their theories
and the research behind them. Selections from some of these texts will be made available. Here is
a list of many of them:
Ben-Shahar, T. (2008) Happier: Can you learn to be Happy? McGraw-Hill Professional: Ohio.
Boniwell, I. (2008) Positive Psychology in a Nutshell: A Balanced Introduction to the Science of
Optimal Functioning. Personal Well-Being Centre (PWBC – open library).
Carr, A. (2004) Positive Psychology: The Science of Happiness and Human Strengths.
Brunner-Routledge: Hove.
Deiner and Biswas-Deiner (2008) Happiness: Unlocking the Mysteries of Psychological Wealth.
Wiley-Blackwell: New Jersey.
Gilbert, D. (2007) Stumbling on Happiness. Harper Collins: London. (in Flex)
Lyubomirsky, S. (2010) The How of Happiness: A Practical Guide to Getting The Life You Want.
Piatkus: Essex.
Seligman, M (2003) Authentic Happiness. Nicholas Brealey
Seligman, M. (2011) Flourish: A New Understanding of Happiness and Well-being – and How To
Achieve Them. Nicholas Brealey: London.
One more although not written by a research psychologist but rather an economist drawing upon
the research is:
Section 4: Learning Resources and Reading Lists
Module: PSC15_01
Author: Lucy Irving 12
Layard, R. (2007) Happiness: Lessons from a New Science. Penguin: London.
I list this one not just because it covers the research but also because the government is
developing measures of national happiness on the basis that the focus should not be on GNP
(gross national product) but also on increasing well-being. Layard has been a key influence (and
has helped secure funding for CBT on the NHS). Go to BIS’s website and put ‘happiness’ into the
search. One thing you will find is this:

http://www.bis.gov.uk/assets/bispartners/foresight/docs/mental-capital/sr-x2_mcwv2.pdf

There are more theoretical texts written primarily for an academic audience:
Lopez, S. and Snyder, C. (2011) The Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychology (OUP USA)
Books for counsellors and coaches who want to use ideas from positive psychology with
their clients such as:
Biswas-Deiner, R. (2010) Practicing Positive Psychology Coaching: Assessment, Activities and
Strategies for Success (John Wiley & Sons)
O’Hanlon, B. and Bertolino, B. (2011) The Therapist’s Notebook on Positive Psychology: Activities,
Exercises, and Handouts. Routledge: London.
Web resources:
The key text lists many websites. To get you started here are a few:
The most important site, and one which you will need to register on (registration is free) and use on
several occasions is Martin Seligman’s Authentic Happiness page
www.authentichappiness.org
This site contains the majority of the questionnaires and surveys which we will use, and also
contains links to all the other reputable sites which deal with positive psychology. A guide to
registering is printed at the end of this handbook
www.generallythinking.com/positive-psychology-resources/
This is a useful site to help you search for resources to use in your assignments and in general.
You’ll find positive psychology news pages, links to email groups and more. I recommend it.

The Well-being Institute at Cambridge University is where much of the work on PP in the UK is
carried out. This is a good place to look for current research in the area of Positive Psychology.
www.actionforhappiness.org/
‘Action for Happiness is a movement for positive social change’. The site aims to bring together
people from all walks of life who want to play a part in creating a happier society for everyone, get
involved.
Journals
Two journals are devoted to our topic:
Happiness Studies (the library subscribes to this)
Journal of Positive Psychology
A new open access journal has recently started:

Instead of a final exam, this course has a policy memo due in Week 8.  I want to help shape your work and scope your research.  Please submit a short (no more than 250 word) summary of your policy memo topic during Week 4 of class.

For the memo, you should imagine that you are a state or city government policy advisor.  Your governor or city mayor needs your boss to brief them on a critical problem facing your community.  You need to develop a memo that will help your boss “get smart” on the problem and come up with some potential solutions.  It is important to select a topic that is very specific.  As an example, selecting “education reform” is too general.  However, looking at whether your community should expand charter schools or accept new testing standards is better scoped.  This specificity will help with your research too.

The full memo requirements are under the Assignments Tab along with a memo template plus the grading rubric to the assignment.
