confidentiality-respect-main-discussion-board-2-MLA-CITATION-sociology-homework-help

Instructions for this week’s Discussion Board follow these guidelines.

Your Main DBs are a core part of the class and are meant to critically engage you with the material, each other, and occasionally with me. I review and respond to some of your discussions and monitor all of your discussions with one another.

In addition to noting the late guidelines in the syllabus about these assignments (make sure you understand these, as they differ from regular assignments), you should follow the required writing guidelines in your syllabus, as with all of your assignments for this class. Points are deducted for not doing so.

Although Discussion Boards tend to lend themselves to brevity and colloquial language, you should not engage in either. Instead, think of these as thoughtful, “mini-essays” where you proofread, properly cite, and produce thoughtful critical engagement with the questions and course material.

When responding to your colleagues, you should write a full paragraph. Be thoughtful and responsive, feel free to ask probing questions. Please do not â€œcorrect” one another, or leave any grading language in these responses. Do not write “good job!”, etc. Engage one another in your discussions. Be interesting and interested.

If I ask you a question, usually it’s to prompt you to grab at an opportunity to improve your grade. Watch for these queries throughout the term.

The rules of engagement are as follows; please respect our space in our learning community.

Ground Rules for All Discussions

  1. Confidentiality â€“ Be sure to respect the privacy of other students in the classroom by refraining from identifying your colleagues when talking to people about the class. That is, what is said in class (or more specifically, who said what in class) should stay there.
  2. Respect – While it is difficult to always know what each person will consider “being respectful,” we can make an effort. These are some of the guidelines we should keep in mind:
  3. Make sure you understand what someone is saying before you respond. Don’t jump to the conclusion that you understand their intent; check it out with them first. Contact me when and if you think something is being said that shouldn’t.
  4. Remember that everyone has different knowledge bases. Assume that people aren’t being willfully ignorant when they do not understand something.
  5. Own your attitudes and opinions. That is, don’t use passive voice when you are talking about something that you think or believe.  If you say something that someone else takes offense to, acknowledge it and move on.  This classroom is a safe space for everyone to express their opinions; all of them.  Come to me with concerns, always.
  6. Do not dominate the class discussion. Discussion can get very interesting (which it should).  Please, however, do not overpower your colleagues by saying everything that comes to mind.  Remember many people in class have a lot to say, and some people can be shy, even in an online environment.
  7. Speak for yourself.
  8. NO ONE should be understood to be “representing” the racial/ethnic, gender, class, etc. group to which they belong. Very specifically, no Chicana/o speaks for all Chicana/os, no Vietnamese American speaks for all Vietnamese Americans, no Native American/Indian speaks for all Native Americans/Indians, no single parent speaks for all single parents, and so on.  Among all groups there exists a diversity of opinions, feelings, and analyses.  We can have access to this richness through discussion, readings, films, and other media – no one person can represent the complexity of any group.

Discussion Board 2: Writing question

If crime is a Social Problem, does the Criminal Justice system serve it appropriately?  Choose a crime to write about and choose its solution in the Think:Social Problems in chapter on Criminal Justice(chapter11/13/14).  How does sociology see things?  Does the crime justify the punishment?

Do not Soapbox (Links to an external site.) (链接到外部网站。) or editorialize (Links to an external site.) (链接到外部网站。). You must remain analytical with critically sound arguments engaging the course material and the Sociological Perspective.

Representing-Racial-and-Ethnic-Minorities-science-homework-help

Introduction

A justice system that endures injustices based on racial and ethnic discrimination is bound to collapse. Moreover, the society cannot be peaceful if it supports only the privilege and discriminates the minority because such an action only threatens a better quality life (Belknap, 2015). To enjoy a better life in the society, we should all learn how to cope and live with each other regardless of our differences in culture or races. The society therefore together with the criminal justice system should work towards eliminating racial disparities within the system by setting up measures that aim at representing the racial and ethnic minorities in justice professions. This paper discusses the need for the judicial system to establish mechanisms that ensure representation of racial and ethnic minorities as well as how to address the issue of interracial and interethnic conflict.

Representing Racial and Ethnic Minorities

The international human rights law is responsible for protecting the right of every individual in the criminal justice system as much as those people outside the system. Therefore the mistakes or crimes committed by different individuals should not be the reason for these people to be denied their rights or privileges while in the system. Moreover the racial and ethnic disparities should also not limit the protection that the offenders of the law are entitled to by the international human rights. According to the human rights all persons have a right to be protected from racial prejudice, detestation, and brutality within the criminal justice system (Alston, Goodman, and Steiner, 2013). Therefore there is a continued need for the criminal justice system to establish measures that ensure representation of racial and ethnic minorities in the justice professions.

Interracial and Interethnic Conflicts

In the justice system as crimes within the nation continue to increase offenders are likely to be from different groups in the society. Moreover, once the various groups have to be placed in the same vicinity conflicts may develop especially if the justice system does not discourage discriminations based on race and ethnicity. The justice system should address the issue of interracial and interethnic conflicts by taking measures that provide protection to all racial and ethnic groups. This act makes the different groups equal and reduces conflicts within the system since no group will be treated as superior to the other.

Affirmative programs may be designed by the justice system to prevent conflicts resulting from racial and ethnic discriminations. Moreover, the judicial system may encourage interethnic alliances that will lead to all minority groups having equal power within the system and as a result hatred and violence will be reduced (Perrewe and Ganster, 2011). The justice system should not just set mechanics to reduce racial disparities but rather engage the groups in interactions and equal treatment that discourages conflicts within the system.

Hospitality-Leadership-Systems-Assignment-Details-Week-4-Group-Project-assignment-help-

Deliverable length:

Group Project Forum: 2-part response forum (see assignment details)

Individual Portion: 1–2 pages word document, 150-word summary of research methods and resources used

      Group Portion: 12–15 PowerPoint slides

Course Objective(s):

  • Recognize and manage conflict situations
  • Begin to develop a leadership style

Assignment

Elizabeth was a recent college graduate and was quite pleased to be asked to be a part of the development team of new reservation software for her company. Because the development project was long-term, but her workload from day to day might change, Elizabeth was placed in a satellite reservations office that was short staffed, with only four employees doing the work of six. Nervous about being new in the face of several long-term reservations professionals, Elizabeth arrives early for her first day in the new office and sets up her desk.

After a few weeks, Elizabeth no longer enjoys her job and wishes she had never taken it. Her coworkers, all much older than she, will not speak to her. She must be careful to lock her computer with her password when she leaves her desk, or someone will send an inappropriate e-mail from her account. She cannot bring her lunch because she has been locked out of the office refrigerator. Her time in the restroom is tracked, and she often returns to find that her chair, a photo from her desk, or files have been taken and hidden. One day, asked to help with making calls to confirm hundreds of VIP reservations, Elizabeth erupts in anger and storms out of the office. She goes to the main reservations office to find her boss and tell her about the conflict.

This scenario is based upon an actual conflict that occurred in the reservations department of a large hospitality company. Elizabeth did not know that her new coworkers had all interviewed for the position that she had taken, and many of them had been with the company in their role for more than 20 years. They were told that a 4-year college degree was a requirement for the job, something none of them had. Though none of the employees knew Elizabeth personally or even knew of her experience and qualifications, they were angry and frustrated. They expressed this in their actions to belittle, humiliate, and harass Elizabeth. These actions created frustration for Elizabeth, who had trouble concentrating on her work. Her outburst in the office was the manifestation of her frustration. The conflict between Elizabeth and the rest of the office is now dire and impacted the office’s work, as well as guest service and the software project.

Group Project Forum

This Discussion Forum is an area for the completion of your group project, both individual and group components. In addition to general discussion of the group, there are requirements as outlined below to demonstrate group participation of each member.

While the forum is used for general discussion and collaboration, the following two sections must be completed to receive credit.  Your participation in this forum is directly related to the grade you receive in the group project.

Part 1: Group Member Posting – must be posted in the forum 4 days prior to the assignment due date.

Part 2: Project Summary Posting – must be posted by the assignment due date.

Part 1:

Group Member Posting: Within the Discussion Forum area, post the following:

  • Students are required to post to the forum their individual portion of the group project.  This individual portion will demonstrate the student involvement and will be incorporated into the student’s grade.

Part 2:

Project Summary Posting: Your responses should be posted after the
Group Member Posting (Part 1). Write a 150 word summary explaining what research methods and resources you used to complete your individual portion of the project.

Individual Portion

Imagine that you are Elizabeth’s boss. You have just gotten off the phone with one of the satellite office employees when your assistant tells you that Elizabeth is waiting to see you, and you invite her in to hear her concerns.

  • Assume that you have learned stories from each side of the conflict, and prepare a paper of 1–2 pages explaining your plan to resolve the conflict and get everyone back to work.

Please add your file.

Group Portion

  • Your team of managers decides to prepare a training session based on the scenario with Elizabeth and the other employees. Each team member should prepare 4–5 PowerPoint slides that answer one of the following bullet points. At least one individual on the team should address each of the bullets. The final group presentation should be 12–15 slides.
    • Identify the factors on each side that led to the conflict. How could the manager have prevented the conflict from starting? Because the manager worked in a different office, how could he or she have monitored the situation?
    • What steps could the four office employees have taken to alleviate their frustration before taking it out on Elizabeth? How could they have worked as a team or as individuals to prevent the conflict from occurring?
    • How could Elizabeth have prevented this conflict from occurring? If Elizabeth had come to your team for advice when the issues first occurred, what advice would you have given her?
  • Once each team member has completed his or her portion of the PowerPoint presentation, the entire team should submit one comprehensive presentation that addresses the issues. There should be no duplicate answers in the final submission.

Please add your file.

You will be graded on the following:

Are-Privacy-Impact-Assessments-PIA-useful-as-a-policy-tool-Computer-Science-Assignment-Homework-Help

Case Scenario:

A client has asked your cybersecurity consulting firm to provide it with a 2 to 3 page white paper which discusses the usefulness of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) as a policy tool. The purpose of this white paper is to inform attendees at an inter-agency workshop on writing Privacy Impact Assessments for their IT investments. These assessments are required by the E-Government Act of 2002 (See https://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/memoranda_m03-22) and must be submitted to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) each year by agencies as part of their E-Government Act compliance reports. OMB, in turn, forwards a summary of these reports to Congress as part of the administration’s E-Government Act Implementation Report (see https://www.whitehouse.gov/‌sites/default/‌files/omb/‌assets/egov_docs/‌final_fy14_e-gov_act_report_02_27_2015.pdf ).

Research:

2.  Research the requirements in federal law to protect the privacy of individuals. Here are some sources that you may find useful:

a.  Alternatives Exist for Enhancing Protection of Personally Identifiable Information (GAO-08-536) http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d08536.pdf

b.  Guide to Protecting the Confidentiality of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) (NIST SP-800-122) http://csrc.nist.gov/publications/nistpubs/800-122/sp800-122.pdf

3.  Research how Privacy Impact Assessments are used by privacy advocates and other members of the public who lobby lawmakers or otherwise seek to influence public policy. Here are some sources to get you started:

a.  http://www.constitutionproject.org/documents/privacy-advocates-say-fbi-facial-recognition-system-could-threaten-civil-liberties/

b.  https://epic.org/privacy/surveillance/spotlight/1006/

c.  https://www.aclu.org/aclu-opposition-hr-3523-cyber-intelligence-sharing-and-protection-act-2011

4.  Find three or more additional sources which provide information about best practice recommendations for ensuring the privacy of information processed by or stored in an organization’s IT systems and databases. These additional sources can include analyst reports and/or news stories about recent attacks / threats, data breaches, cybercrime, cyber terrorism, etc. which impacted the privacy of individuals whose information was stored in federal IT systems and databases.

Write:

Write a two to three page summary of your research. At a minimum, your summary must include the following:

1.  An introduction or overview of privacy which provides definitions and addresses the laws, regulations, and policies which require federal IT managers to protect the privacy of individuals whose information is processed or stored in federal IT systems. This introduction should be suitable for an executive audience.

2.  A separate section which addresses the contents of Privacy Impact Assessments and how they are currently used by the federal government and members of society.

3.  An analysis of whether or not privacy impact assessments provide useful information to privacy advocates, lawmakers, and others who develop or influence privacy policies and laws in the United States. Federal Officials who participate in the policy making process include: OMB Staff, White House Staff, Congressional Committees and their staff members, Members of Congress (Representatives & Senators).

4.  A discussion of best practice recommendations for ensuring the privacy of information processed by or stored in an organization’s IT systems and databases. These recommendations should be well supported by information from your research.

Your white paper should use standard terms and definitions for cybersecurity and privacy. The following sources are recommended:

·  NICCS Glossary http://niccs.us-cert.gov/glossary

·  Guidelines on Security and Privacy in Public Cloud Computing http://csrc.nist.gov/publications/nistpubs/800-144/SP800-144.pdf
