Using-the-Ashford-University-Library-databases-locate-and-read-peer-reviewed-articles-on-a-variety-of-research-designs-and-methods

Annotated Bibliography of Research Methods

Using the Ashford University Library databases, locate and read peer-reviewed articles on a variety of research designs and methods. Be sure to include at least one article regarding the method used in the study you selected in Week One. Create an annotated bibliography in which you select, summarize, and evaluate at least six of these peer-reviewed sources. The sources chosen must have been published within the last 10 years. Note that the articles required for this assignment are not research studies; instead, they are articles about how to do various aspects of research.

At least three of the sources should be about qualitative research methods, and at least three of the sources should focus on quantitative research methods. Do not select any articles about both qualitative and quantitative methods or about mixed methods. For each source, identify the approach (qualitative or quantitative) and the research design category (non-experimental or experimental). Summarize each source in your own words, describing its purpose and how the information would be useful to a researcher designing a new study. Do not use quotations from references for this assignment.

Refer to the Tutorials section within the Ashford University Library for help with searching for articles.  To find these tutorials, click on the “View Tutorials” button on the Library’s home page. There is also a subject guide devoted to Research Methods.  In searching for articles on topics in psychology and other social sciences, it is strongly recommended that you utilize the EBSCOhost, ProQuest, and SAGE Journals Online databases.  You may only select articles that are available in full-text format.  To do this, limit your search criteria by selecting the Full-Text box in the search function of the database.

Your paper must be a minimum of four pages (excluding title page) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. All sources must be documented in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. For more information about annotated bibliographies and APA style, please see the Ashford Writing Center

Hypothesis-Testing-for-Two-or-more-Samples-Business-finance-Assignment-homework-Help

Use the Student_Data.xls file which consists of 200 MBA students at Whatsamattu U. The file includes variables regarding students’ age, gender, major, GPA, Bachelors GPA, course load, English speaking status, family, weekly hours spent studying.

I have uploaded the materials for UNIT needed. This Unit is much like Unit 03 but now you are comparing two different samples to each other rather than some stated norm. You still will choose one of the three directions for the test…..two-tailed, upper tailed, or lower tailed…..depending on how the problem is worded. Or if testing more than two variables, and using the ANOVA test, you look to the post hoc section to observe any significant differences if you reject the null.

COMPLETE PROBLEM 1: The battle of the sexes lives on still today. Since admission standards do not address gender there should be an equally diverse group of men and women in school, but do they perform equally well? Using the sample of 200 students (in the data file), conduct a hypothesis test for two independent samples to determine if the mean GPA differs for men and women. Use a .05 significance level. Report on your findings (100+ words, 3 or more sentences). In your report, be sure to include the results of the hypothesis test and indicate whether you are using a two-tail, upper-tail, or lower-tail test.

COMPLETE PROBLEM 2: You have heard that men are more likely than women to declare a major in an MBA program. Using the sample of 200 students (in the data file), conduct a hypothesis test of proportions to determine if the proportion of women with “no major” is greater than the proportion of men with “no major”. Use a .05 significance level. Report on your findings (100+ words, 3 or more sentences). In your report, be sure to include the results of the hypothesis test and indicate whether you are using a two-tail, upper-tail, or lower-tail test.

COMPLETE PROBLEM 3: You have probably heard that if you want something done, give it to a busy person. So is one’s employment status a factor in their academic performance? Using the sample of 200 students (in the data file), conduct a hypothesis test using Analysis of Variance to determine if there is a difference in the mean GPA for those who are unemployed vs. work part-time vs. work full-time. Report on your findings (100+ words, 3 or more sentences). In your report, be sure to include the results of the hypothesis test and indicate whether you are using a two-tail, upper-tail, or lower-tail test. Also include a chart comparing the means of the three groups.

The-Center-for-Epidemiologic-Studies-Depression-Scale-CES-D-Scale-writing-homework-help

SPSS Assignment Part 1 Instructions

The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D Scale)

In the Assignment Instructions folder, there is an SPSS data file that will be the basis for your analysis. The data included are fictional and were created solely for this assignment.

The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D scale) is often utilized to measure depressive symptomology (Radloff, 1977). It is a self-assessment that is completed by the individual. The CES-D contains 20-items rated on a 4-point scale (0 = Rarely or None of the Time to 3 = Most or All of the Time). The phrase “Within the past week did you…” prefaces the questions in order to emphasize recent depressive mood. Scores are summed and can range from 0 to 60. Traditionally, individuals with scores over 16 are identified as “depressed” (Weissman, et al., 1977), though due to high false positive rates, a score of 27 is considered a more useful cut-off (Zich, et al., 1990). The full scale can be accessed at: http://www.chcr.brown.edu/pcoc/cesdscale.pdf. Items 4, 8, 12, and 16 are reversed to avoid “yay-saying” or “nay saying” (Radloff, 1977). Several studies have validated four subscales across a variety of subgroups (i.e., depressive affect, well-being, somatic, and interpersonal) (Gliem & Gliem, 2003).

Demographics

You will learn how to go from raw demographic data in SPSS to describing a sample.

For this assignment, you will:

1.  Create a table showing the most appropriate descriptive statistics for three (3) of the demographic variables. You will be graded on the appropriateness of the descriptive statistics and graphs for each of the demographic variables as well as current APA format for your tables.

2.  Create the most appropriate graphs for the three variables you used for #1 above. Figure captions should be in APA format.

3.  Write a summary paragraph describing the sample. For example: “The sample was based on xxx# of college students from a private university in the southeastern United States. X% of the students were males, x% females. Students were primarily… (give the appropriate descriptor information with %’s or whatever fits the variables you choose to analyze).
