ASSIGNMENT 6: Culturally Diverse and Emic Approaches to Assessment and Intervention (Final Project Part 4)
Use the population that you have selected for your paper to discuss how culturally deficient or genetically deficient models (choose one) of assessment or intervention have contributed to human service professionals inadvertently undermining the progress, growth, or development of their clients. Provide an example of an emic assessment and an example emic intervention that has been developed to leverage the strengths and/or support the needs of the population. Provide at least one peer-reviewed journal article to support or elaborate on your answer. Your 1-1.5 pages paper will be evaluated using standards below:
- What do we know about the causes and progression of these disorders?
- What do theory and research tell us about the causes of these disorders and possible means of prevention?
By the end of this discussion, you will be able to:
- Discuss the symptoms and development of mood disorders with focus on the biological and social-cognitive perspectives
- Describe the symptoms and likely causes of the most common anxiety disorders
Complete the following:
Briefly share the plot of a book, movie, or television show in which the main character(s) presented one of the psychological disorders discussed in this module. Describe the behaviors displayed by the character(s) that are symptomatic of the disorder. Did the character(s) seek professional help from a psychiatrist, psychologist, or counselor? What coping strategies were used? What caused the character(s) to develop the disorder and in your opinion, which therapeutic approach do you feel would be the most beneficial treatment for your character(s)? Why?
