Shadow Health
What is Shadow Health?
Shadow Health is a digital education company that partners with colleges and universities to provide engaging, effective, and efficient learning experiences for nursing and allied health students.
How can Shadow Health help me?
Shadow Health offers a suite of tools to help nursing and allied health students build clinical reasoning skills and prepare for high-stakes exams. In addition to our DCE product, we offer a full suite of assessment products, including Virtual Clinical Excursions (VCEs) and Board Vitals practice questions.
What is a Digital Clinical Experience (DCE)?
A DCE is an online simulation that allows students to interact with virtual patients in order to practice their clinical reasoning skills. Each DCE includes a comprehensive set of resources, such as patient interviews, physical examination videos, and lab results.
What are the benefits of using Shadow Health?
There are many benefits to using Shadow Health, including:
– Allowing students to build clinical reasoning skills
– Helping students prepare for high-stakes exams
– Offering a suite of assessment products
– Providing virtual patients for students to interact with
What are some of the features of Shadow Health?
Some features of Shadow Health include:
– DCEs: Online simulations that allow students to interact with virtual patients
– Virtual patients: lifelike and interactive avatars that simulate real patient interactions
– A suite of assessment products: including exams, quizzes, and assignments
– A comprehensive set of resources: such as patient interviews, physical examination videos, and lab results.
– The ability to create and customize content: so that instructors can create unique and engaging learning experiences for their students.
What are some of the benefits of using Shadow Health?
Some benefits of using Shadow Health include:
– Improved patient outcomes: Students who use Shadow Health have been shown to have better patient outcomes than those who don’t.
– Increased engagement: Virtual patients are more engaging than traditional lectures or textbooks, and this leads to increased student engagement.
– Enhanced critical thinking skills: By working through realistic patient cases, students learn to think critically about health care problems and potential solutions.
– Greater understanding of clinical reasoning: Clinical reasoning is a complex process, but by breaking it down into smaller steps, students can better understand how to apply it in real-world settings.
– Improved patient care: By providing students with a realistic view of how patients experience health problems and treatments, Shadow Health helps prepare them to provide better patient care in the future.
There is evidence to suggest that using Shadow Health can lead to improved patient outcomes. In one study, medical students who used Shadow Health had better clinical performance on standardized exams than those who did not use the software (Freeman et al., 2016). Furthermore, another study found that students who used Shadow Health had a greater understanding of clinical reasoning than those who did not use the software (Norman et al., 2016). These studies suggest that using Shadow Health can help students learn more effectively and perform better on measures of clinical competence.
While there is currently no evidence that using Shadow Health leads to improved patient outcomes, this software has the potential to improve care in the future. If Shadow Health can help students learn more effectively and perform better on measures of clinical competence, it is possible that this will translate into better patient care. In order for this to occur, however, further research is needed to determine whether or not Shadow Health actually does lead to improved patient outcomes. Until then, Shadow Health remains a promising tool that has the potential to improve the quality of healthcare.
