The issue I want identify with BP is how they have made the environment right after the pipeline rupture, and they are developing cleaner fuels. The oil spill took

11 lives, injured dozens more, and disrupted the livelihoods of thousands of people in the Gulf Coast region. BP started early environmental restoration projects, for which BP has

committed up to $1 billion. BP ended up spending more than $21 billion on the response,

clean-up and claims so far which was their responsibility for not following guidelines. And even though testing shows beaches, waters and seafood are safe, BP made up to $500 million available over the next decade to fund scientific research into the Gulf ecosystem. BP made stronger safety guidelines than the federal government established by reinforcing the company’s

focus on safety and helping restore US energy security. I work in the gas industry and know how important it is to follow guidelines like the Clean Water Act, because once the oil gets into the soil and water, it is never really gone. Before the oil spill, there were recommendations to install backup valve regulators, but it was never enforced until it was too late. BP is exploring alternate energy’s like natural gas since the fastest growing fossil fuel is expected to be natural

gas. That’s great news for the US, because we have a vast domestic supply and the technology to access it. It typically burns much more cleanly and efficiently than coal, with only about half the emissions. If we can use gas to displace older, coal-fired power generation that would be a big step forward for both efficiency and sustainability. (Dudley 2009) I have also seen the use of bio-diesels, but the diesel gels up in the colder climate even like regular diesel if additives are not added which means adding more oil products.

BP falls under the utilitarianism ethical theory since they benefit society, and society knows burning all the gas that we put in our cars is not benefiting the environment. BP supplies fuel to three million customers a day with 9,500 BP gas stations Also in the area is Air BP, which provides aviation fuel at really all major US airports, including 1000 flights a day at O’Hare. BP Pipelines North America, one of the nation’s largest pipeline companies. (Dudley 2009) BP US refining and fuels R&D unit is trying to develop cleaner-burning fuels. BP is a British company based in London, but they have invested more than $50 billion in US energy development, because eventually the U.S. will run out of oil and a cleaner and safer energy source will be developed.
