Is it Nature (or a primary discourse community) or nurture (or a secondary discourse community) or elements of both which determines a person’s recognized status in society? For example, in America, groups are often classified by socioeconomic status. And, in other countries, such as India, there is a caste system. In general, humans tend to have biased attitudes to “others” who are not the same grouping as them. With these brief examples in mind, using research as your guide, choose a position on whether it is your primary discourse that determines who you are, is it your secondary discourse that determines who you will become, or a combination of both primary and secondary discourses? You can use the novel as a primary source, but you must have a minimum of 3 secondary research sources in addition to the novel. Your essay should be in correct MLA formatting and should be at least 4-5 pages in length.
