I happen to live in a college town. The culture here varies from place to place. So instead of focusing on the town I currently reside in, I am going to discuss the town I grew up in.

I grew up in a town just outside of Nashville, TN. Growing up, we only had two stoplights through the whole town. We were a close knit community. There was very little diversity. Everyone went to Church on Wednesday and Sunday. If someone in the community went through something devastating, the whole community pitched in to help them out. If you missed a service, you would receive a phone call the next day making sure everything was okay because you weren’t at services. To the community, not going to services was very abnormal and frowned upon. If you were new to town, you were very quickly greeted at home with a basket of goodies to welcome you to the neighborhood.

The town has changed a lot since those days. It now has a super Walmart and a new set of retirement homes. It is still small compared to other tpwns, but the community is not aso close knit anymore and the culture has diversified greatly as well. When I lived there , the town majority was Caucasian. It is now more integrated. The crime rate has also made a signicant increase. The area is now one of the more predominant areas for the manufacturing of Crystal Meth and has been in the news quite a bit in the last few years. 

The difference of the city then and now is amazing and a very good example of how a town grows and changes over the years. Many factors went into the changes of this town, one of the biggest being the factories that reside in and near the city now.
