Review your classmates’ responses during the Participation for this week.

·         Write a 200+ word response answering the following two questions (submit as a Word document): 

1.  Indigenous religions have been deeply affected by their encounters with modern cultures.  What was the most important or interesting negative consequence of this (introduction of disease, loss of land, forced conversion – feel free to use your own)?

2.  What was the most important or interesting positive benefit for indigenous cultures resulting from their contact with modern cultures. (suppression of practices such as human sacrifice, access to labor and life saving technology, opportunity for willing conversion, increase in literacy – feel free to come up with your own)?

You may use your responses from the two discussion questions this week.  You should also cite at least one source for each question.  Keep in mind that websites are unreliable sources of information compared with those you can find in the Axia Library.  For example, many websites spread the myth that Native Americans were deliberately infected with smallpox by Europeans.  While many Native Americans indeed died of smallpox, there is no evidence that its spread was intentional.  Websites often use statements found on other websites (or from dubious scholarship) as evidence; be aware of this.

You have recently been hired as a project manager by the CEO of the ABC Firm, a large manufacturing firm (just one division of the XYZ Conglomerate Corporation). The CEO of ABC has been a manufacturing executive since the beginning of the 1950s. He and most of the managers and supervisors are steeped only in traditional manufacturing and operations methods, which are outdated. The board of directors has been concerned about lagging results of ABC versus its more modern thinking competitors.

You were hired by the CEO as the project manager with the specific charge to changeover ABC’s outdated manufacturing, forecasting, and scheduling systems to more modern methodology. You have successfully accomplished this very same task at 7 different companies over the last 20 years, so you feel confident that you can get the transition to occur, although you do have some reservations. However, with the patience of the board and the understanding by the CEO and most of the managers, you can show them how different life will really be under the new operations paradigms.

After your working lunch with the CEO, he asked you to prepare a memo, specifically for the senior management team, dealing with demand management and forecasting. As the CEO is a practical type of team leader, he asked that you specifically describe the following points in your memo:

• Traditional manufacturing methods
• Pros of traditional manufacturing methods
• An in-depth description of at least 2 issues faced by most manufacturing firms that have traditional manufacturing methods
• Contemporary methods to overcome the cons without losing the advantages of the traditional method

Foreign Exchange Markets

Foreign Auto Purchase

Minimum of 250 words. Read the scenario presented in Chapter 6 Problem #2 (at the end of the chapter): While you were visiting London, you purchased a Jaguar for £35,000, payable in three months. You have enough cash at your bank in New York City, which pays 0.35 percent interest per month, compounding monthly, to pay for the car. Currently, the spot exchange rate is $1.45/£ and the three-month forward exchange rate is $1.40/£. In London, the money market interest rate is 2.0 percent for a three-month investment. There are two alternative ways of paying for your Jaguar.

       a. Keep the funds at your bank in the United States and buy £35,000 forward.

Analyze the alternatives presented and make a recommendation on purchasing the Jaguar. Be sure to provide support for your recommendation – why do you prefer the stated alternative? What are the advantages of the alternative that you have selected?

This week, you will complete the second draft of your course project. The second draft adds the remaining sections of your paper according to the planning you did last week. By the end of the week, you should be getting close to meeting the scope and format guidelines for the completed project.

III.Conclusion

Last week, you completed the highlighted sections with your first draft. Use any feedback you received to improve these sections as you add to the new sections. Let’s look at how to develop each of these sections. The second draft, due this week, will complete the remaining sections of the body of the paper.
