Summative Assessment: Accountability

Nurses are faced with situations where legal and ethical considerations are complex and sometimes don’t have a simple or clear solution. Unfortunately, nurses are frequently held accountable in these complex situations, which is why it is important for nurses to understand what they can and can’t do, what they will be accountable for, and what they are responsible for. In this assessment, you will analyze a complex topic from an ethical and legal perspective. You should also analyze its impact on nurses and accountability.Select 1 of the following topics, or another topic approved by your instructor:Health care as a right or privilegeFutile careWhistleblowingEuthanasia and assisted suicideClinical uses for illicit substances (e.g., medical marijuana, MDMA for PTSD)Research your selected topic.Analyze a nurse’s legal responsibilities related to your selected topic.Analyze a nurse’s ethical responsibilities related to your selected topic.Take a position on the topic and explain your position in detail.Summarize the steps in the ethical decision-making model you employed and the process used to arrive at your position.Discuss how your position affects nurses and how nurses can be held accountable in situations related to your selected topic.Cite at least 3 evidence-based, peer-reviewed sources published within the last 5 years to support your position(s).Format your homework as one of the following:18- to 20-slide presentationThe slides themselves should only contain essential information and as little text as possible. Do not design a slide presentation made up of long bullet points. Your speaker notes convey the details you would give if you were presenting. Using the theory of unpleasant symptoms as a guide, what would you look for in an assessment tool for patient symptoms?

Reply to this post with at least 250 words, minimum of two scholarly references in APA format within “the las 5 years published”.The theory of unpleasant symptoms focuses on three essential elements, namely the symptoms, the cause of the symptoms, and the influence of the condition on the patient’s performance (Blakeman, 2019). These three essential elements will inform my assessment tool evaluation criteria. According to Bea et al. (2022), it was possible to identify infective endocarditis among the elderly and distinguish it from related aging infections such as colorectal cancer and HCP that are age-related due to the patients presenting heart murmurs, muscle and joint aches, fevers and chills, swollen feet, and ulcer nodes among patients. Therefore, I will focus on the clinical presentations among patients in the assessment tool evaluation since such help isolated conditions and give a credible diagnosis.I would also focus on the causes of the symptoms, as earlier mentioned, due to the potential it presents in treating the condition. According to Bea et al. (2022), due to the adverse age of the patients, Enterococcus ssp was responsible for the infective endocarditis among the elderly since it is the most common among 65-79-year-olds while a further analysis revealed Gram-positive cocci among the patients informing antibiotic treatment. Therefore, I would focus on the results from the analysis of the condition and potential diagnosis in an assessment tool evaluation as it would inform my decision on the best intervention for the patients. In an assessment tool evaluation, I would focus on the severity of the condition to the psychomotor and physical performance. As per Lebeaux et al. (2019), due to the prevalence and the mutation of the Staphylococcus aureus, aminoglycosides are an ineffective treatment for infective endocarditis. Therefore, nI would focus on the performance of the individual in an assessment tool to help identify the intensity to inform my decision on the potential treatment; as noted in Lebeaux et al. (2019) findings, conditions intensity influence the effectiveness of the medication.ReferencesBea, C., Vela, S., García-Blas, S., Perez-Rivera, J.-A., Díez-Villanueva, P., de Gracia, A. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) formed its no-pay policy based on the growing work of National Quality Forum (NQF) of “never events.” Meaning, CMS will no longer pay for certain conditions that result from what might be termed poor practice or events that should never have occurred while a patient was under the care of a healthcare professional.Discuss specific examples of “never events” and their impact in your workplace. What issues are you considering for your clinical project and why?Submission Instructions:Your initial post should be at least 500 words, formatted and cited in current APA style with support from at least 2 academic sources.

(Nursing) Scenario #2 ( Repply)

Reply to the following discussionScenario 2: 33-old female of Hispanic descent Case StudyA. To assess this 33-year-old Hispanic woman, I would employ Bowen’s family systems theory and Leininger’s transcultural theory. The Bowen family systems theory represents the best approach. Her obesity, hypertension, and depression can significantly impact how other family members feel, think, and conduct themselves. Bowen’s family systemstheory considers the family as an emotional unit, and the numerous interconnections within the family are described by systems thinking (Couto et al., 2018). By their very nature, families are deeply emotionally linked, and one member’s sorrow can severely impact these connections and relationships. The patient and their family members may be influenced by their treatment, so the entire family system should be considered.Different cultures have distinct ways of understanding, providing healthcare, knowing, and anticipating receiving care (Marilyn et al., 2019). To foster compliance, well-being, and healing, patient care should provide culturally tailored therapy and manage the patient and family as a system. The transcultural theory holds that empathy, compassion, and culture are strongly linked.B. One should start by obtaining an experienced interpreter. Because the patient is Hispanic, a competent translator will be of the highest help to ensure that the client knows and understands the care offered. I could approach this patient courteously, attentively, and curiously, and I would query about the patient’s social identity, culture, and intentions for their care.As the assessment advances, I would ask them about their history of mental illnesses while making careful and accurate notes of their disease symptoms and maintaining an eye out for mood changes. I would start with open-ended inquiries before moving on to more focused investigations. In learning from the patient and assisting the patient in receiving better care, I must approach the client neutrally and clarify why I want to know detailed information, such as any ideas of self-harm.

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Briefly explain the neurobiological basis for PTSD illness.Discuss the DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria for PTSD and relate these criteria to the symptomology presented in the case study. Does the video case presentation provide sufficient information to derive a PTSD diagnosis? Justify your reasoning. Do you agree with the other diagnoses in the case presentation? Why or why not?Discuss one other psychotherapy treatment option for the client in this case study. Explain whether your treatment option is considered a “gold standard treatment” from a clinical practice guideline perspective, and why using gold standard, evidence-based treatments from clinical practice guidelines is important for psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners.
