Nursing  Respond back to discussion post x2 (250 words each person).

(1 post:)  In the video, “Motivation -leader and teamwork” the ants are working together by carrying an object and piling it up. At one point a huge leaf falls in front of one ant and he beings to panic. The one leader told everyone “we do not need to panic; we are all trained professionals” and advise them to go around the leaf (Bahumaid,2017). During the whole time each ant was going around the leaf, he cheered them on and gave them motivation to keep on going. The ants were so happy they made it around the leaf. When they made it around, the leader told them what a good job they did. The point of this video is that by working together, you can find other ways to do accomplish a goal. Sometimes to reach a goal you must find a different route to get there. This video exemplifies teamwork in many ways. The first way is that everyone is helping each other to accomplish a common goal. Next is that when an issue arises and the team is unsure what to do, the leader is there to step in and help. The leader helps them complete the goal even though there was a hurdle in the way. Not only did the leader guide them down another path to complete the goal, but the leader was there to cheer them on. These are great skills for a leader to have, to collaborate and communicate with the time, finding an alternate route and to cheer them on from the sidelines because they may lack the confidence in something new.In the article, “How effective is teamwork really? The relationship between teamwork and performance in healthcare teams: a systematic review and meta-analysis” it talks about the relationship between teamwork and performance (Schmutz, 2019). The article states that, “teamwork as a major impact on the performance and it should be valued to maintain a positive outlook for the patient” (Schmutz, 2019). The article discussed, “ the importance of members of the team that have different backgrounds and having a different understanding on how something works” (Schmutz, 2019). This statement is so true. The leader in the video, could have had a different background, he could have been though something like this before. The leader found a different way to get to the top even though there was an obstacle in the way. In the working world, everyone is going to be coming from different backgrounds. Take our group we have now, we students from the generic RN, LPN’s and the Medics. Each of these groups bring something different to the table. Each of these groups has a different way of doing something that you may not have thought of. Having a diverse group of people can help lead to a different way of doing something and get the goal you have in mind.References:Schmutz, J. B., Meier, L. L., & Manser, T. (2019). ( 2017, August 9). Motivation – leader and teamwork! animation video . YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MO1aY1xC80(2nd Post:) Teamwork in NursingTeamwork is one of the most important parts of being a successful organization, especially when it involves healthcare. To be a successful nurse in any setting, being able to work as a team is crucial. When teams coordinate care, they decrease the level of stress patients may experience and positively affect outcomes. In addition to easing patient concerns about treatments and procedures while raising efficiency, teamwork may reduce the number of issues related to nurse burnout. The short YouTube video, Team Work Inspirational Video, by PK Production, did a great job expressing the importance of teamwork by explaining that when you replace “I” with “We” even illness can become wellness (PK Production, 2019). Even in a patient’s darkest moments, if they feel safe around us and that us nurses are all working together to achieve the best possible outcome for this patient, it will make their experience that much more bearable. This video also went on to illustrate that we can do so much more when we just work together as a team. I loved how the video explained that sometimes we win, but sometimes we learn (PK Production, 2019). In any healthcare profession there will be trials, tribulations, and mistakes; what is important is learning from them.Teamwork Defined.Teamwork is defined in many ways, however one I especially prefer is “the interaction of two or more professionals about behaviors, cognitions and attitudes, which contributes to reaching shared goals through interdependent performance” (Holmes, 2020). This is especially important in nursing because patient care is not a one-person job. As a nurse, we constantly work with different doctors, specialties, families, and departments, this makes working well with others and as a team crucial in having the best patient outcomes. In recent years, the World Health Organization has increased its focus on teamwork in inter-professional healthcare teams to improve patient safety (Holmes, 2020). In addition to giving patients the best possible experience when we care for them, optimizing patient safety is a key result of working well as a team.Conclusion.Teamwork is essential in healthcare.  Fundamentals of teamwork include good communication and collaboration between co-workers reducing the risk something is overlooked, potentially leading to an error being made resulting in harm to the patient.  Nurses must possess a wide array of traits in addition to working well with others and as a member of a team, but teamwork is one of the most important ones.ReferencesHolmes, T. Nursing  100 word positive response with three references due today 4/25/20 at 9pm

Professional nurses are well versed in the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation processes and, in direct contact with patients, represents valuable data for improved outcomes. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 emphasizing nursing in the promotion of leadership toward quality care of patients, including population health, dealing with economic disparities, and employment satisfaction among healthcare workers (Milstead & Short, 2019). These concepts are also mirrored with the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) report, The Future of Nursing, that nurses should redesign the healthcare systems in partnership with physicians and other healthcare providers in terms of research, advocacy, and policy planning (Milstead & Short, 2019). Perhaps a critical aspect of policy advocating has to do with motivating others toward positive results, which can improve access to care, increased efficiency, cost savings, and positive patient outcomes; that is, efficacy (Glasgow, Lichtenstein, & Marcus, 2003). Telehealth is one example of the care that is delivered in a safer environment, such as COVID-19 pandemic. Teleneurology gives stroke patients access to a neurologist instantly with faster treatment preserving brain tissue, thus improving outcomes.Nurses participate in policy review at the workplace, also outside in terms of local, State, and Federal legislation. In terms of political policy review, which would benefit the nursing profession can be accomplished by joining organizations. The policy-making process ultimately benefits both patients, and the profession as individual and inter-professional efforts are essential (Milstead & Short, 2019). The main reasons why people join nursing organizations have to do with professional benefit (21.4 percent), networking (21.4 percent), increase knowledge (22.1 percent), mentoring opportunity (7.9 percent), and gaining CEUs (17.1 percent). Social interaction, with 9.3 percent, and job requirement, 0.7 percent, are other reasons for joining (White & Olson, 2004).Challenges joining a professional organizationMain barriers include family responsibilities (25.0 percent), too time-consuming (17.9 percent), lack of information on meetings (17.9 percent), no benefit to membership (8.9 percent), politics in the organization (7.1 percent), and 12.5 percent surveyed said it was too expensive. 10.7 percent said the meetings were too far away, being a location or transportation barrier (White & Olson, 2004).Overcoming challengesA pressing issue for nursing organizations is self-evaluation. With so many organizations, what the organization must present should represent a positive, helpful experience for the nurse fostering empowerment and unification of a single cause for pressing, serious issues.  So nursing meetings should also focus on itself for improvement, which would foster more members. Suggestions appear to increase satisfaction within an organization and electing effective leaders to give a clear direction and be very precise with information to avoid confusion (White & Olson, 2004). Further leaders should encourage individual nurses to cultivate their leadership skills to create, question, or refine policies (White & Olson, 2004). I am fortunate I live in Polk County, Florida, which has a local organization called the Polk County Advanced Practice Nurse’s Association (PCAPNA). Hence, distance is not unreasonable, with affordably priced membership, especially for students.  If the organization is not a positive experience, they will lose members. So policy review should be geared toward itself as well as advocating political matters such as the scope of practice for state and Federal policies. This is entirely nurse-driven.Policy Review at the WorkplaceNurses not only advocate for patients, but they must function in an environment that is satisfying, safe, and empowering (American Nurses Association [ANA], n.d.). Leaders and stakeholders should foster open communication, exchange of ideas in a non-threatening manner, which the World Health Organization describes as a physical, mental and social environment supporting safety and health (ANA, n.d.). This goes back to the Nurse Practice Act (NPA), in which each state governs nursing defining the legal scope of nursing practice. The NPA serves as a guide to protect nurses and patients in performing duties (ANA, n.d.). The nurse must work in a non-intimidating environment.Nurses can become empowered in the workplace. For example, take a common problem such as workplace violence.  Workplace violence consists of not only physical, but psychological damage in an environment full of vulnerable patients, which was defined by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and is increasing yearly (ANA, 2019). Many nurses have been through it–hospitals tolerate rude, disrespectful, and even belligerent doctors because they bring in much revenue, and nurses are seen as dispensable. Addressing the issue of workplace violence can be shared in meetings. Challenges occur when there is poor leadership; they will ignore these intimidating healthcare providers, as it erodes and destroys staff, and compromises patient safety. Rude, intimidating behavior in healthcare is very dangerous as it undermines staff morale, increases staff absenteeism, resignations, fostering additional hostile work environments. Ultimately nurses can feel afraid to contact the doctor when patients have problems to incur their wrath leading to patient harm (Grissinger, 2017). For nurses to protect their patients, rude, unprofessional, and intimidating doctors should be reported as an official incident report. Abusive behavior violates The Joint Commission and is viewed as a Sentinel Event violating the culture of safety (The Joint Commission, 2020); hospitals that tolerate hostile doctors should be reminded of this at meetings. Perhaps even with incident reports and still nothing is done about chronic rude and irresponsible, unprofessional behavior, an official complaint can be sent to the Joint Commission for a formal investigation. Two tools to cause policy review can be seen as using reporting tools such as incident reports and stakeholder meetings. Education is another tool that should be readily disseminated among staff and patients.  Nurses have a lot of influence and empowerment, simply because we are nurses and it is expected of us to advocate for our patients, communities in all matters that affect human health and well being.ReferencesAmerican Nurses Association. Nursing  Appraising Qualitative Research

Does the research design answer the research question? Explain your rationale. The practice problem selected was mental/behavioral healthcare. According to Perry, Lawrence, and Henderson (2020), the aim of this qualitative study about stigmatization of mental healthcare patients in the acute health care setting was to collect data from several studies to provide a framework for understanding the attitudes that healthcare workers have toward this population. A question noted in the introduction of this study, “Does stigmatization therefore lead to lower quality of care, and worse outcomes, for those with mental health conditions in the acute healthcare setting?” Due to the complexities noted from professional perceptions and social challenges that patients presented, the answer to this question was less clear. However, the research design highlighted five main characteristics associated with the stigmatization of mental healthcare patient’s; social control, rejection, avoidance, devaluation, and failure to act. (Perry, Lawrence, and Henderson, 2020).Were the study sample participants representative? Why or why not? This study involved a closed set of several studies and was driven by theory that involved participants (healthcare workers, patients, and caregivers) in acute hospital healthcare settings.Compare and contrast the study limitations in this study. One limitation noted that in the emergency room (ER) practice setting was that healthcare workers may have a preconceived idea and negative attitude toward patients-even without a mental/behavioral health diagnosis. Another limitation was one reviewer performed the data analysis and selected studies with oversight from two other authors, which may have yielded different opinions whether the healthcare workers had a bias against individuals with mental/behavioral health patient’s, or not. Also, the studies selected were primarily from wealthier countries and based on focus groups and interviews as opposed to natural settings.Based on this evidence summary, would you consider this qualitative research study as support for your selected practice problem? Explain your rationale.I would consider using this qualitative research study in support of my selected practice problem-mental/behavioral healthcare to better understand the stereotyping and stigmatizing that frequently occurs in healthcare, plus the associated barriers (Fleury, Grenier, et al.,2019). My aim is to gain more knowledge through a spirit of inquiry and develop trusting relationships with stakeholders (Lützén, 2017), therefore, It will be integral to note the positive and negative aspects of providing care for this vulnerable population to improve both patient and organizational outcomes.ReferencesFleury, MJ., Grenier, G., Farand, L. et al. (2019).
