Culture can be seen as a liability when the values of the individual clash or isn’t in agreement with the organization’s values (Davis, 2021).Barries caused by an organizational culture that can be encountered by the nursing leader that can make them feel powerless are personal cultural values, people with different perceptions about organizational culture when employees only accept the decision based on what they believe and value it becomes a barrier to the nurse leader. Again when an organization is used to a particular culture and is finding it difficult to make a change it becomes a barrier. When there is a lack of communication between the leader and employee it can be a barrier that can make the nurse leader look powerless. When the nurse leader is not well equipped with information about the organization it makes them feel powerless. When the role and responsibility are not clearly defined the nurse leader may feel powerless. The dysfunctional effects of the organizational culture would include; barriers to change, barriers to diversity, and barriers to acquisitions and mergers. limited organizational leadership opportunities, lack of funding for advancement as a leader, and perceived need for further leadership development before serving in a leadership role can also be a barrier that the nurse leader might encounter that can make them feel powerless.
