Family Genetic History Guidelines

Purpose

This assignment is to help you gain insight regarding the influence of genetics on an individual’s health and risk for disease. You are to obtain a family genetic history on a willing, nonrelated, adult participant. NOTE: failing to complete this assignment using an adult participant other than yourself will result in a 20% penalty deduction being applied.

Due Date

The Family Genetic History Assignment is to be submitted at the end of Week 2.

Disclaimer

When taking a family genetic history on an actual client, it is essential that the information is accurate. Please inform the person you are interviewing that they do not need to disclose information that they wish to keep confidential. If the adult participant decides not to share information, please write, “Does not want to disclose.” If the client fails to disclose answers to several items, you will need to find another client who is willing to share.

Directions

Refer to the examples in Chapter 4 of your textbook that discuss development of a genogram. https://lms.courselearn.net/lms/CourseExport/files/bc33e3e5-a473-47e1-b4e5-8e710be36e74/NR305_Textbook.jpg

Jarvis, C. (2016). Physical examination & health assessment (7th ed.). St. Louis, MO: Elsevier

1. Download the required NR305_Family_Genetic_History_Form (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. You will document the adult participant’s family genetic history using this MS Word document.

2. Complete the family genetic history using the information that the adult participant is willing to share with you. The focus of this course is on the normal healthy individual so your paper does not need to contain much medical/nursing detail. Refer to your textbook or the Internet to learn what impact the family’s health history may have on the adult participant’s personal state of wellness both now and in the future. This paper does not require APA formatting, but you are expected to write clearly and use proper grammar and spelling. Developing a pictorial genogram using symbols to identify certain relationships (e.g., divorced, sibling, deceased, etc.), may provide more insight, however, drawing may be difficult to accomplish with MS Word, therefore you are not expected to use symbols, lines, or other drawing elements. Instead, describe the relationships among the various people in the adult participant’s family’s genetic history. Remember, the goal is not to learn how to draw with Word, but to gather information about the family and recognize its significance to the adult participant and that person’s health.

3. You are required to complete the form using the productivity tools required by Chamberlain University, which is Microsoft Office Word 2013 (or later version), or Windows and Office 2011 (or later version) for MAC. You must save the file in the “.docx” format.

4. Save the completed form by clicking on Save as and add your last name to the file name, for example, NR305_Family_Genetic_History_Form_Smith.

5. Submit the completed form to the Family Genetic History form by friday, 11:59 p.m. MT at the end of Week 2. Please post questions about this assignment to the weekly Q & A Forums so the entire class may view the answers.

DESCRIBE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PERSUADER: WHAT INFLUENCES OUR ABILITY TO BECOME PERSUADED BY SOMEONE?

Construct a paper that provides an in-depth analysis of the three parts of persuasion. Include an introduction, thesis statement, and conclusion. Your completed assignment must be three to four pages in length (excluding title and reference pages), and must follow APA guidelines. Include a minimum of three APA references. Address the following points in your paper:

How does the elaboration likelihood model help to explain the relationship between the persuader, the message, and the audience?

4.   Review the excerpt from p. 156 of your textbook, Social Psychology in Depth: Word of Mouth and Persuasion. How does the e-word of mouth phenomena illustrate the concepts above? Please be specific in your response.

What is the possible disease process according to the client’s history?

What is the possible disease process according to the client’s history? What assessment questions would be useful to ask about her medical and family history?

Donna, a twenty-one-year-old nursing student, comes to her nurse practitioner in December with a five-week history of itchy eyes and nasal congestion with watery nasal discharge. She also complains of a “tickling” cough, especially at night, and she has had episodes of repetitive sneezing. She gets frequent “colds” every spring and fall.

Physical Examination

Vital Signs: Afebrile; respiratory rate, pulse, and blood pressure all normal

Skin: Flaking erythematous rash on the flexor surfaces of both arms

Head, Eyes, Ears, Nose, and Throat: Tender overmaxillary sinuses; sclera red and slightly swollen with frequent tearing; outer nares with red, irritated skin; internal nares with red, boggy, moist mucosa and one medium-sized polyp on each side; pharynx slightly erythematous, with clear postnasal drainage

Lungs: Clear to auscultation and percussion

Answer the questions about Donna and her condition and provide a pathophysiological response in the body. Examine and describe the pathophysiology associated with the possible disease.

What is the possible disease process according to the client’s history?
What assessment questions would be useful to ask about her medical and family history?
What evidence suggests that Donna does not have an acute severe infection?
If Donna has allergic rhinitis, what type of hypersensitivity reaction is involved?

Throughout this unit, you have learned that certain links exist between emotions, motivation, and stress

Unit VI Reflection Paper
Throughout this unit, you have learned that certain links exist between emotions, motivation, and stress. In fact, if one does not handle his or her stress effectively, numerous health issues could arise. For this assignment, you are to compose a reflection paper in which you examine a current or past stressful event in your life. You must embrace Selye’s general adaptation syndrome (GAS) and describe your reactions to the stressful event during each stage. You should describe the various facial expressions that you displayed as you progressed through each stage as well. Be sure also to address the following questions: What coping strategies did you embrace to help solve the problem? How was your professional life affected by the stressor? How does Maslow’s hierarchy of needs relate to your stressor? What motivated you to solve the problem? Did you experience additional conflicts with other individuals as you endured this life trial? Tips for writing your reflection paper: Introduction: This is meant to give a concise overview of the featured stressful event and is usually one paragraph in length. In your introduction, you will reveal the featured stressful event that you will examine for this paper. Summary: This contains your description of the required areas listed above in the opening statement, including Selye’s GAS, your facial expressions, coping strategies, professional impact, and relationship conflicts. Analysis: In this portion of the paper, you should provide information from the textbook to analyze the impact that the stressful event could have placed upon your health, future goals, and motivation. You may use sources identified from the CSU Online Library to assist your analysis efforts, but this is not required. Conclusion: This summarizes your final reflections for the featured topic. For instance, what implications have you uncovered during your research that you will apply to future stressful events? Your paper must be at least one page in length, not counting the title and reference pages, but it can be longer if necessary to address all aspects of the assignment. It should be formatted in APA style. You are required to utilize the textbook, but other sources may be used if needed. You may visit the CSU Online Library to identify a source that provides specific information on how this stressful issue could impact your health, future goals, and motivation. Any information from a source should be cited and referenced in APA style.

Introduction

This week students will focus on the concepts of understanding conditioning/learning theories of personality, in addition to trait theories of personality. Students are expected to read Chapters 5 and 8 in the Lecci & Magnavita text, complete the discussion questions, and complete the written assignment. The text as well as the assigned video will focus on the various conditioning/learning theories of personality such as theories developed from the theorists Pavlov, Watson, and Skinner. Additional concepts in the text and the assigned article include, but are not limited to those related to the theories of Allport, Eysenck and Cattell. Students will also be reading the Schustack & Friedman text to gain a more in-depth understanding of Watson’s and Allport’s theories.
