Psy 3001 Pinto
IRP Required Elements
Below are listed the required components for your Independent Research Proposals. Please note that this paper must follow APA style. Refer to the APA style paper posted in Blackboard, Appendix A of your text, and the APA manual on reserve in the library to assist you in preparing your paper in accordance with APA style.
The assignment is a 10-page paper (not including the Reference page or Title page). I’ve included some guidelines for how long each section should be.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Research question: Are people more likely to consume unhealthy foods when in a bad mood?
Research method:
One person watches a sad movie. One person watches a happy movie. Both people receive food trays during the duration of their movie with:
cookies and chips, and
Vegetable sticks and fruit salad.
The sample size for the study is 70 people; 35 participants per movie theme (happy or sad) Both food trays need to be weighted prior to the participant watching the film and recorded. After the movie is over, each individual will fill out a mock “movie review” of the film, with a section to suggest similar movies they would enjoy watching, and a section to rate their taste levels for the food items. After they finish this questionnaire and leave, researchers would weigh each tray to determine if there is a weight difference from the beginning of the study. The purpose of this is to determine which food tray, either A or B, was consumed more of for participants either watching the sad or happy film.
Variables: Mood, and food consumption
IV: Mood. (sad/happy)
DV: Food choices (healthy/unhealthy)
This is a between subjects design, and is randomized.
Title Page
Include the running head, title of the paper, your name and affiliation
Abstract (1/2 page)
1-2 sentences describing rationale for your study
Statement of the purpose of your study
Brief description of the Methods (including # of participants and what they will do)
Statement describing study hypotheses & proposed analyses to test the hypotheses
Introduction (5-6 pages)
Introduction is where you review the literature on your topic and build the rationale for your study (i.e., describe what research has shown on this topic, why it is relevant, and what your study will add)
Introduction should end with a paragraph that clearly states the purpose of your study and the study hypotheses. This should include what the IV and the DV are.
Method (3-4 pages)
Participants
Include # of participants you propose to include, how they will be recruited, and any eligibility criteria you propose to use in selecting them
Research Design
State the research design you propose to use in your study. Specify the IV, levels of the IV, the DV (operationally defined) and how participants will be assigned to conditions of the IV.
Measures (or Materials)
*NOTE: If the only Materials in your proposed study are questionnaires, call this subsection “Measures”. If you have materials in addition to questionnaires, call this subsection “Materials”; then make one paragraph describing the measures and one paragraph describing the materials.
For Measures: Include a description of Measures (questionnaires) you propose to use. For each questionnaire, you should 1) describe what the questionnaire is designed to measure, 2) Give an example of an item from the questionnaire, 3) Report the # of items and response alternatives (e.g., true/false, likert-type scale, etc). Be sure to indicate how the response alternatives are labeled (e.g., a scale of 1-5 where 1 = strongly disagree and 5=agree). And 4) Provide a citation
For Materials: Describe any other materials you would need to execute your study (e.g., computers, food, music, reading passages, etc). These will be specific to the IV manipulation you propose.
Procedure
Describe consent procedures
Describe all proposed study procedures in good detail (i.e., what will participants have to do). The procedure should be described in enough detail that another researcher could conduct the same study just by reading your procedure. Elements of the Procedure should include:
Description of the IV manipulation (i.e., conditions participants will be assigned to)
Statement that participants will be randomly assigned
Description of what participants will be asked to do
Explanation of when the DV will be measured
How participants will be compensated for participation
Debriefing procedures
Proposed Analyses (1/2 page)
Describe the specific analyses that you propose to use to test each hypothesis
This should be stated in the following way: To test the hypothesis that ________ a ___________ analysis will be conducted with ____ as the IV (levels: ) and ____ as the DV.
Reference Page
At least 10 references in APA style. References should come from scholarly sources (e.g., peer reviewed journal articles or edited books) and the majority should be recent (i.e., within the last 10 years). See Cozby & Bates, Appendix A and/or the APA manual (on reserve in the library) for guidance in formatting citations.

In hospitalized adult patients, how does an educational program on central line management compare to no educational program in the prevention of central line-associated bloodstream infections?
P: Patients with Central lines in MICU or hospitalized
I: educational interventions for staff and patients.
C Educational program compare to no educational program.
O: decrease rate of CLABSIs
T: within 90 days of process improvement implementation.
I am interested in Central line bloodstream infections (CLABIS).by using educational initiative could decrease the rate of catheter-associated bloodstream infection. mandatory education program offered to ICU nurses and physicians. it was developed by a multidisciplinary task force to highlight correct practices for the prevention of catheter-associated bloodstream infection.
In this program, they included 10-page self-study module on risk factors and practice modifications involved in catheter-related bloodstream infections and in-services at scheduled staff meetings for their staff. Seventy-four episodes of catheter-associated bloodstream infection occurred in 7,879 catheter-days in the 24 months before the introduction of the education program.
Following implementation educational of the intervention, the rate of catheter-associated bloodstream infection decreased to 41 episodes in 7,455 catheter days. The estimated cost savings secondary to the decreased rate of catheter-associated bloodstream infection for the 24 months following the introduction of the education program was between $103,600 and $1,573,000.
Educational intervention main focused on the education of health-care providers on the prevention of catheter-associated bloodstream infections. it may lead to a dramatic decrease in the incidence of primary bloodstream infections. Education programs may lead to a substantial decrease in medical-care costs and patient morbidity attributed to central venous catheterization when implemented as part of mandatory training.

Nursing Theory Perspectives

Nursing Theory Perspectives

Question descriptionThis activity is designed to expose you to a variety of nursing theory perspectives. Select a nursing theory you have researched in past weeks. Analyze the theory. Your analysis should include: •Description of the theory’s background and influencing factors, including worldview •Explanation of the underlying assumptions •Evaluation of major strengths and weaknesses •Application strategies for clinical practice •Citation of case example from personal or professional life that describe the application in practice Cite at least three scholarly articles. Format your assignment as one of the following: •18- to 20-slide presentation •3- to 4-minute podcast •15- to 20-minute video presentation •875-word paper •another format approved by your instructor If you choose to write the 875-word paper, be sure your scholarly articles are indeed, scholarly. Be sure to check off each area in the directions and rubric that are required in your paper. I will repeat my Week 2 information on scholarly articles here: A scholarly article is one that is from a professional journal (it can be nursing or another profession). These journals are considered peer reviewed, thus scholarly. You can find them in a data base in the library, but be sure you format them appropriately in APA in your paper. You cannot just add a “Retrieved from” address and consider that APA. A scholarly journal contains the author(s), year, title of article in lowercase, title of journal in italics, volume/issue (volume in italics, issue in parenthesis, not in italics), and page numbers where available – THEN you can add the database “Retrieved from” information address. If you choose to do a PowerPoint, be sure you follow PowerPoint rules as outlined in my initial announcements on the home page. Podcasts still need a Word document for your scholarly articles as references. I want to give some brief information for those of you who choose PowerPoint as your assignment choice. This is a fine choice, but it must be completed correctly. A PowerPoint is a visual presentation, not a word presentation. Each slide should follow what is known as a 7×7, 6×6 or 5×5 rule, meaning there are not more than 7 lines of words on a slide, and no more than 7 words to a line (different styles/instructors might want the 6×6, or 5×5 rule). This also means that each slide, for the most part, needs to have a picture, graph, or other visual representation on it. A PowerPoint is being shown to an audience. There needs to be some color to it, along with the other visual interests. The main part of what you want to say, or present, needs to be in the speaker notes. The audience doesn’t see this, only the speaker that has downloaded them previously. As you (the presenter) click through the slides, your audience is looking at the slides, while listening to your voice. If you find you can’t utilize the 7×7 rule, please choose the essay format in a Word document. These, of course, must all be in APA formatting with a title page, body, and reference list. There are many resources available to help you with APA in the library. Please use them. If you have any questions, please contact me.

In your initial post,

  • Explain the empirical research presented in your assigned article, applying appropriate citations and references.
  • Describe, in your own words, how the research relates to your own experiences as well as how this area of psychology may have affected your past or current beliefs about memory development. Do the research findings refute or support your current beliefs, and in what ways? Are there variables about memory of which you were unaware based on your article?
  • Apply skeptical inquiry to the potential problems that might arise from research in the area of memory, and relate it to the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct.
  • Provide a rationale for whether or not this premise is valid and/or appropriate based on the findings reported by the assigned articles.

It is recommended that you research articles in the Ashford University Library to support your assertions if the required articles do not provide sufficient information. Your initial post should be at least 500 words in length.

Mrs. ABC calls her physician for an appointment, but there are no appointments available until next week. She has a mother who is a nurse practitioner and her office is 5 minutes away from where she lives. She calls and schedules an appointment with her mother. Her mother was surprised to see her daughter at the office. Mrs. ABC is frantic and begs her mother for an antibiotic. Her mother tests her and the rapid strep test is negative in office. Her mother (NP) sends out a strep DNA probe. Her mother prescribes an antibiotic and the patient (her daughter) is very satisfied. The results returned for the DNA probe 48 hours later and it confirmed negative for strep.
