Perform an Internet search and explore two or more websites featuring painters’ works. (A keyword search using the words visual+arts+painting will result in a multitude of sites.) Choose TWO PAINTINGS (each from a different artist) that, in your estimation, stand out above the others. Do not use paintings from the text for this assignment! It is highly suggested that you explore museum sites to guarantee the reputability of paintings selected.

1. In an essay format and in your own words, compare and contrast both paintings in terms of the history, medium, technique, and a number of elements of design that you have learned thus far in this course. Make sure that you name and define the elements of design.
2. Next, provide your own objective analysis of whether you believe each painting is skillful or unskillful.
3. Then explain whether or not each painting appeals to you and why. Do you like or dislike what you see?

Discussion #1

I thought this discussion was interesting knowing that we had to discuss what ethics are. I think that this can be a very big debate with everyone having their own input on what ethics is to them. I think having a moral ethic is something that everyone has in some way or another. It can be as little as knowing when to use your turn signal when making a right hand turn. Ethics is a moral idea that kinda controls a person behavior and shapes the way that they are. I think that we can also call ethics a moral and this is different for every person. Another good way to describe the ethic is that it can also be called a decent human conduct and shapes each person into the way that they are. Some people may think of ethics to be defined as from right and wrong as to what you’re able to do and what your not. Having good ethics is what is able to make this world go around and be peaceful. Having ethics is knowing when to talk and not to talk. knowing when to raise your hand and wait to be called on in class to be allowed to talk. When to drive in the right lane when going slower than other traffic. Tipping your sever the correct amount that they deserve when eating out. Some things may be simple and comes to some natural to others. Thanks for reading my post, this is how I view what ethics are in this world.

Discussion #2

What is ethics? I believe that is determined by who you are asking. What I might perceive as ethical another might not. Ethics is defined as what a person believes to be moral, a bigger sense of what is right and wrong and what our society will except.  There are always two sides to a situation. For example, animal activist believe it is unethical to hunt animals but hunters believe it is ethical to hunt to provide food for their families. There are more subjects that have bigger ethical dilemmas in the world. An example of an ethical dilemma in nursing could be when the nurse should tell the patient of his cancer diagnosis but his family wants to keep his condition from him to spare the patient of the distress. On one side I could see why his family would want that but as a nurse that would be a hard call. In the book, “The Elements of Moral Philosophy” it had ethical situations and I could see why some of the people did what they did. For example the third example about the little girl Tracy was called a slippery slope argument because if they let the dad off easy for ” an act of mercy” then more people might believe that they could get off easy if they murder a handicap person or an elderly person. “Similar “slippery slope arguments” have been used on other issues. Abortion, IVF, and human cloning”. (pg.10) Because of these slippery slopes we have to take caution on how these views are portrayed or things could get out of hand and lines get blurred.

You are the general manager (GM) of an upscale, wine-dedicated restaurant that caters to wine and gourmet-dining enthusiasts. It is a busy Saturday night, and your floor manager approaches you with an issue concerning a server who feels that one of his tables is entering the danger zone for overconsumption of alcohol. The two men and two women at the table are frequent customers who routinely spend quite a bit of money on a monthly basis at your establishment. The server is reluctant to honor their request for another bottle of wine to be served to them but does not want to upset them. They have already consumed four bottles of wine among them over a period of 3 hours.

An intervention is never an easy situation, but there are some approaches that can make the process of “cutting off a guest” less hostile. Intoxicated customers never like being cut off, but as a representative of the beverage establishment, the manager and servers have an obligation to customer safety.

• Identify intervention techniques that need to be taken with the intoxicated guests.
• Explain what steps should be taken to ensure safety of the management and the guests.
• Explain the dramshop law and how it applies to food and beverage establishments.
