Week-3-Discussion-Do-you-agree-with-your-classmates-perspectives-writing-homework-help

Each response should be at least 75 words in length and should address two or more of the following:

  • Do you agree with your classmates’ perspectives? Why, or why not? Be specific.
  • Ask a specific question to encourage further discussion on the topic.
  • Challenge your classmates’ interpretation of literature and/or point of view.
  • Do a small amount of research and share what you learn with your peers about the topic discussed in this post.

Part one:

I believe the theme of this poem is how important the time the child was spending with their father even though there were flaws. I believe this because of the poetic device of imagery was used. Through the poem, Theodore Roethke uses descriptions like “The whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy;” (line 1 and 2). If you have ever smelled whiskey on someone’s breath before than you most likely thought back to that memory while reading that. Another example of the imagery helping show the theme is line 14 when it says “With a palm caked hard by dirt”. It makes a clear picture of a father’s hand that is filthy and rough from work holding the child’s wrist. A second poetic device that was used in the poem is rhythm. Every other line rhymed and for someone like myself who struggles with reading and literature, it makes reading this poem flow smoother. The poetic devices throughout the poem definitely painted a clear picture in my mind of a young child, dancing on the feet of their father. The father smells strongly of whiskey, stumbled and missed steps, and his hands are still caked with dirt from work. I also saw this young child who clung on “like death” (line 3) because even with the flaws of the situation he was loving the time and experience with his father anyways.

Part two:

After hearing the poem I no longer looked at it the same way. Hearing it spoken made the poem seem much more serious and even dark. When I was reading it, I guess I put a little comedy towards it because I had been that child once, but hearing it made it sound sad and on the scary side. When I read the poem the pace was much faster than it was listening to it. I do believe that reading poetry aloud is worthwhile. When you read it aloud you are able to hear how you are reading it which could lead to better understanding and it may be easier to analyze because you may be able to relate it the poem because of your passed experiences. I do now also believe hearing poetry read by the author is important because you are able to hear it how they meant for it to be heard and it could help you understand the meaning the author meant.

Factors-that-Contributed-to-the-Panic-of-1893-History-2-Research-Paper-help

The core assignment of this course is a documented research paper (1000-1500 words in length = approx. 4 – 6 pages double spaced, 12-point font). MLA Format

·  The essay should support a thesis statement with information gained from research or investigation.

·  The paper will not be just a report presenting information, but will be an essay that carefully examines and presents your own historical interpretation of the topic you have chosen and your interpretation of the information you have gathered.

·  The paper may include consideration of problems and solutions, define key terms, or refute arguments against your thesis statement.

It will be important to choose a topic of interest to you.

·  Approach this assignment with an open and skeptical mind, then form an opinion based on what you have discovered.

·  You must suspend belief while you are investigating and let the discoveries shape your opinion. (This is a thesis-finding approach.)

·  Once you have found your thesis, write the paper to support it.

You will use some of the following critical thinking skills in this process:

1.  Choosing an appropriate topic, limiting the topic

2.  Gathering information, summarizing sources

3.  Analyzing and evaluating sources

4.  Defining key terms

5.  Synthesizing information, comparing and contrasting sources

6.  Testing a thesis, making an historical argument, using refutation

7.  Amassing support for a position

8.  Documenting sources

Because this may be a longer essay than you have written before and a complex process is involved, it is recommended that you complete this paper using the following steps:

1.  Choose a topic related to U.S. History after 1877 (Chapters 16-28) that you would truly like to explore and that you are willing to spend some time on. Your chosen topic should be focused. Pose a question that you really want to answer. You may want to begin with more than one topic in mind.

2.  Do some preliminary reading on the topic(s). You may begin with the textbook, then further explore the information available. Refine your topic. Summarize your topic, your interest in the topic, the questions you want to answer, and a hypothesis you want to test.

3.  Gather information from a variety of sources. Use a minimum of four sources for your paper, and at least one must be a primary source.

o  Examples of primary sources are ones that are used in our discussion forums 2 – 8.

o  They are sources that are contemporary to the times under investigation.

o  An example of a secondary source is our textbook, though the textbook also contains excerpts of primary sources, which you may use as a source in your essay.

4.  Outline the results of your research and then plan for your essay (note you are not required to submit the outline).

5.  Write the final draft and be sure to include a Works Cited List; be sure to use the correct MLA documentation style.

Gangs-In-America-Law-Assignment-Homework-help

For this week’s assignment, you will write a 1-2 page essay about the history of gangs in America. Be sure to address all prompts and cite your sources in APA format. This is worth 60 points, so be thorough and give your best effort.

By the end of the twentieth century, gangs had proliferated in nearly all geographical areas of the United States; they can be found in suburbs, in small cities, and on Native-American reservations. As of today, gang membership continues to grow, and street gangs will remain a major problem in American society for some time to come (Delaney, 2013).

In a 1-2 page paper, please respond to the following:

    • Explain the history of gangs in America.
    • Be sure that you include the correlation of old and new world rivals, the rise of law enforcement, politics, fire brigades, and the civil war period.

Be sure to cite using APA guidelines. For citation guidelines, please refer to the Tools & Resources section of the course.
