Alternative art can be generally defined as artworks made outside the traditional media. Alternative media
includes video, digital media, conceptual art, performance art, sound art, and installations. Alternative art often asks us, as viewer to interact with and sometimes complete the work of art and begs us to think beyond the traditional notions of what constitutes art.

For this assignment, you are asked to interact with a work of digital, interactive art. Select one or two of the artworks described below and then write a one-and-a-half- to two-page (1.5-2) essay response to your experience interacting with this digital work of art. Responses may be based in personal opinion, but should address some combination of the following questions.

Which artwork did you select? How would you describe the experience of interacting with this artwork? In your opinion, what is the purpose of this specific artwork? Is it commenting on an aspect of our contemporary lives? If so, what aspect and what is it saying? How might you compare interacting with this artwork to other activities you perform on the Internet (web-searches, social networking, etc.)? What makes the site visited a work of art compared to those other daily web-based activities? Has your opinion of what constitutes art changed since the start of this class? How so?

Your response must be typed – no hand-written work will be accepted – Times New Roman, 12-pt font, double-spaced.

ARTWORKS YOU MAY SELECT FROM

“For this Dia Artist Web Project commission, Bonillas is digitizing the [photo] archive, while simultaneously creating an extensive index of associated words that “mirrors” the image database. The relation between these two levels unfolds as the visitor explores the possibilities of matching text and image.”

Lisi Raskin, Warning Warum (2009) http://awp.diaart.org/raskin/ (Links to an external site.)
“For her first web-based artwork, Warning Warum, Lisi Raskin presents visitors with the ability to virtually detonate an atomic bomb at an address of their choice. The mapping functionality included in Raskin’s project
was once available on the web as part of a PBS website for the 1999 film “Race for the Superbomb.” The website still exists, but the mapping function was removed post 9-11, a time which marked a shift from Cold
War nuclear fears to the fears of nuclear bombs in the hands of terrorists.”

Lynn Hershman Leeson, Agent Ruby (2002) http://agentruby.sfmoma.org/ (Links to an external site.)
“An artificial intelligent web agent that is shaped by and reflective of encounters and adventures that it has with users, and will be seeded to user servers through a site of origin or birth. Ruby chats with users, remember users questions, ultimately be able to recognize their voice and have moods and emotions. Her mood may also be affected directly by web traffic.”

What-changes-did-Sanger-describe-in-married-relations-discussion-history-help

  • What changes did Sanger describe in married relations in recent generations?
  • Sanger describes marriage to no longer mean slavish subservience of women to men. Men and women are becoming more and more equal as the years pass. And therefore, marriage is now seen as a union between two individuals. These two individuals require a period of bonding so that marriage is now a friendship and companionship between the two.
  • What changes did Sanger hope would come about if unplanned pregnancies could be prevented?
  • Sanger notices the cause of unplanned pregnancies upon young married couples. She saw that young women saw motherhood as a horror and tragedy; an intolerable situation. Sanger hopes that by preventing unplanned pregnancies, young couples are given enough time to establish a strong bond between them. The woman will have solidify her worth, her happiness and her love for her husband and the marriage. When these things are full filled, pregnancy and motherhood will be a positive next step. The foundation is set for parenthood.
  • Do debates concerning birth control and unplanned pregnancies still occur in the United States?
  • Yes. Even to this day, debates over the female body is still occurring. Whether it be the shutdown of Planned Parenthood or to ban the performance of abortions. Even to the availability of birth control pills. There have been companies who refuses to provide insurance to female employees who needed birth controls. Therefore, to this day, debates on how to female chooses to use her body is still in questions.
  • Are Sanger’s points still relevant? How?
  • I believe they are still relevant. A married couple, two consenting adults, should have a say in how they want their marriage to be. Whether it be early pregnancy or late pregnancy. Even young women should have the availability of birth control if she so wishes. My wife and I did not want children early as we married quite young. She was determined to finish her education. I was just starting out in the military. Parenthood was not the immediate step we wanted to take. And luckily, birth control was available for us and it helped give us time to work on our marriage before parenthood. But to this day, there is still arguments over whether birth control should be available to all.

how-will-the-Web-3-0-transformations-be-used-in-business-What-are-the-benefits-of-W3-0-to-consumers-

Case Assignment

After reading the course materials, write a 3- to 4-page paper on the following question:

How will the Web 3.0 transformations be used in business? What are the benefits of W3.0 to consumers?

Assignment Overview

The idea of a Semantic Web has been around since at least 2001, although many critics have been skeptical about its feasibility. For example, one school of thought believes that Web 3.0 is already here with the current advances in Web technology. The other school of thought supports that Web 3.0 is evolving as Artificial Intelligence (AI) is added to combine information indexing and classification to simulate patterns of human reasoning and logic. Although computers can store large amounts of data and present it in patterns, they cannot associate undefined patterns. Web 3.0 in the context of AI would be able to close that gap by detecting information patterns and integrating them in a dynamic process. Search engines capable of adapting to semantic technology would allow users to find, share, and collect information using natural language.

So, is the Semantic Web really here? We have certainly come a long way. Web 1.0 consisted of static webpages. We could read, but not much else. Web 2.0 has opened up the dialogue among people, and it has created a new industry of social networking through blogging and Facebook. We are putting our ideas out there. Technologies to facilitate tagging, blogs, wikis, and podcast/videos are among the popular advances in Web 2.0. The productivity of online systems has been significant. Internet applications have grown among a wide range of industries as a result of interactive online systems.

The reaction of people to these products and services has been phenomenal, and it has contributed to a new social digital economy that did not exist with Web 1.0. Some of the advances that we see more recently are natural language queries like “Where do I buy product X in California?” Someone querying with this statement appreciates a search engine returning several company links or even blogs where people are discussing the same product or asking the same question. The concept of tagging will carry through Web 3.0.

The following materials introduce Web 3.0 from a historical perspective. Dr. Yuen’s site provides three short videos: Evolution Web 1.0, Web 2.0 to Web 3.0The Future Internet: Service Web 3.0; and Web 3.0: Semantic Web. All materials are meant to familiarize the student with Web 3.0 features. The Web 3.0 implications to businesses and consumers are covered in the last article.

Stephen-Post-Discussion-NRA-endorsed-Donald-Trump-for-President-Communications-Assignment-Homework-Help

Reply to post.

The national news program I watched reported on the Egypt Air plane lose, NRA endorsed Donald Trump for President, Kalamazoo MI shooting victims stories in court, and the current election status of the possible presidential candidates. The ideological messages this program offered was in the presidential running is the ‘far right’ and ‘far left’ of the political spectrum. The thoughts presented would possibly make a person decide to vote for one candidate but not the other. The media is owned by large corporations that may present actual news in one way that may not always be the whole truth behind the story. The Kalamazoo shootings was presenting the information with what the media knew and the overall feelings the family members had regarding the shootings. It did touch you a bit on how sad the families were in the loss of their loved ones.

In the advertising shown during the news broadcast there were the Duracell stay connected, Palmolive’s shower buddies, Jaguar master plan, and Booking.com concerning a wedding plan. The Duracell commercial was subtle, another type of battery being used and how fast it died, compared to Duracell’s long lasting battery. The Palmolive shower buddy commercial was very slick in how at the end the right forearm was not the ladies but a guys. For Booking.com the women were on exercise machines and talking about the wedding honeymoon. This gave the impression they were getting ready due to exercising to head somewhere warm and to a beach. The happiness shared in these commercials were with Duracell having a battery that would not die on you when you needed it most. For the Palmolive shower commercial was the feeling of being clean and fresh. The Booking.com was the convenience of being able to go online and set up your reservations for a trip without having to leave home.

The comedy I watched was ‘The Carmichael Show’ and the message they talked about was the Internet and how many people watch Porn. It started by going to church and the Preacher confessed he had been watching Porn unbeknown to his wife. Once the family opened up about the situation and concerns they all agreed to change this habit. The grandmother of course threatened to shut down the Internet due to her family’s habits and they had to settle her down regarding it. The ideological message in this show was how the grandmother stood strong on her thoughts, beliefs and values regarding this improper use of the Internet. As noted by Trenholm (2014), core beliefs are basic long-term beliefs that cannot be changed without disrupting our entire belief structure in life. The family agreed with their Grandmother and made a change for the better. She accomplished her goal of changing their lives for the better. The values of these people in the show are very close to my own family, especially my Mother. She would hit the roof knowing one of her kids was doing something of this sort. What was noticed was the audience needed to realize how wrong it was and actually what others will think about you if they knew and what your values are in life regarding this type of decision to watch Porn on the Internet.
