Assignment 2: Annotated Bibliography

The purpose of this assignment is to utilize what you learned thus far. To do that you will be writing an annotated bibliography.

One way in which psychology examines issues in life-span development is to review current research on related topics. For this assignment you will review current research and provide a critical evaluation on that research through an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is simply a brief summary and analysis of the journal article reviewed. For more information on the required format of the bibliography please click on annotated bibliography template.

You will need to find research articles located in scholarly journals. Scholarly journal articles are also referred as primary source peer reviewed articles. A scholarly journal article can be found in the South University Online Library. To find more information regarding utilizing the South University Library and accessing scholarly journal articles click on Library Guide. What cannot be used for this assignment are web pages, magazines, newspapers, text books, and other books. Finally, current research for our purposes is an article that was published within the last 5 to 6 years.

Remember this is a course on human development so when looking for articles make sure that it is related to the subject matter covered in the course. Include one or more of the following as topic areas in your search:

• Major developmental theories across the lifespan
• Nature of geographic, gender, social, cognitive, emotional, and developmental factors during each period of development
• Developmental factors that impact one another.
• Historical and current trends in development
• Current trends which may differentially impact the future development of populations in the United States
• Social, and diversity issues related to developmental psychology

For this assignment you will find 2 scholarly journal articles for each of these age groups:

• Early childhood
• Late childhood
• Adolescence

The annotated bibliography should include for each article.

• Write a 1-2 paragraph summary for each article.
• Write a 1-2 paragraph analysis and evaluation for each article found.
• Make sure to integrate what you learned in your course readings in that analysis
• Used correct spelling, grammar, and professional vocabulary.
• Used APA format including:
• Title page
• Double space
• Cited and referencing all sources using the APA format.

Cite any sources you use using the APA format on a separate page.

Describe the training program that is in place at your organization. Highlight the ways in which is provides good support for organizational goals and mission. Suggest ways in which it might be improved.

Can you write one page double space due by tomorrow morning at 1200 noon.

I posted this now. 

The planning for the community building session is almost complete. The last details are how to conduct the plenary sessions for sharing information across groups to develop key priorities and themes that will need to be addressed.

There are 2 sessions that need to be planned. One is to review the work done by intact work teams. In this larger session, the goal is to spot patterns and identify themes that can be used to plan actions. These patterns or themes will come from the stop–continue–start charts developed by each functional group. In this way, not only will the changes that need to happen be identified, but aspects of effective work (those things that work well and should be continued) can also be reinforced.

The external consulting team strongly recommended a “cross-functional, by-level grouping” for the first step. Their aim is to promote understanding of priorities and show how different issues at different levels of the organization can be aligned. The internal consulting team is excited about being the primary facilitators for these sessions. Everyone recognizes that a structured approach will be critical (for timing and to control decision–making inputs). The approach called Nominal Group Technique (NGT) seems to be ideally suited to this task.

You want to prepare yourself for conducting the session. Use the library, Internet, or other resources to research NGT. Because each grouping will be of a differing size, you want to tailor the overall steps of NGT to the situation you will facilitate. To do this, you must create a meeting session plan (a document of 4–5 pages) that will answer the following questions:

What is the goal of the session?

How will the nominal group technique be used to achieve this goal?

How will the members of the team work together (guidelines for effective participation)?

What specific steps and tasks will be involved in achieving the goal?

How much time will be allocated to each step or task? What voting mechanism is most appropriate for the size of the group and the specific stage of the process?

What will the outcome look like? What will the group present to the other levels?

Cylon says what?!?!?! Part 1

Admiral Adama needs to decrypt a series of messages from his various lookout pilots. He’s hoping that one of them will let him know the position of the Cylon fleet. Because of his standing order, computers cannot be networked together, so to decrypt the message it will have to be run through 3 separate programs run on 3 different computers. 

Adama feeds the encrypted file into the first computer, and it immediately spits out a new file.  Looking at it he can see that it’s starting to decrypt the file.

He then feeds this new file into the second computer, and it immediately spits out a second new file. Looking at this file he can see that the file is almost readable, but still needs to go through the next stage.

Finally, Adama  feeds the file to the last computer.  It immediately spits out the final decrypted file and sees that one of his pilots has indeed found the Cylon fleet. 

Decryption

For this project you will be writing 3 programs. Each program will contain a main and 1 function that will do the decrypting. 

Decryption stage 1:

You will be given the initial file to decrypt. It will be named “messages.txt”. You will read the sentence into a string.

You will send the string to a function you write named “reverse_sentence”:

string reverse_sentence(string s);

This function will reverse the string, and then return the reversed string. Do not make a new string, save it back into the original string.

You must use one of the STL algorithms.

Next you will write the string to a new file called “stage2.txt”.

Decryption stage 2:

The structure of this program is similar to  stage 1; you will open the file “stage2.txt” and read the sentence into a string.

You will send the string to a function you write named “normalize_sentence”:

string normalize_sentence(string s);

This function will down case all letters of the string, and then up case only the first character of the string.  It will then return the modified string.

You must use one of the STL algorithms.

Once you have normalized the string you will then write it out to a new file called “stage3.txt”. 

Decryption stage 3:

The structure of this program is similar to  stage 2; you will open the file “stage3.txt” and read the sentence into a string.

You will send the string to a function called “replace_sentence”:

string replace_sentence(string s);

This function will replace certain words in the string with other words.  You will then return the modified string.

You must use string functions.

YOU MUST USE A SERIES OF IF-STATEMENTS. DO NOT USE A SWITCH-STATEMENT IN THIS FUNCTION!!!

Here are the words that need to be replaced. There may be multiple words that need to be replaced in a string, but the replacement word will only appear once.

1Replace “barn” with “Galactica”

2Replace “toaster” with “Cylon”

3Replace “juice” with “fuel”

4Replace “wagon” with “viper”

You must replace the entire string if you find these phrases

After you finish write out the string to a new file named “decrypted.txt”. 

Additional Things!!

•In each program you must read in the entire file into the string before you can start using your decryption function. 

•You must close the files your reading from and writing to before the end of each program.

•You can use cin/cout for testing, but remove or comment out the lines before turning in the program.

IMPORTANT HINTS!!!!

You can find the functions required in the standard template library. You can see the library on http://www.cplusplus.com under the reference section.

Do some experimentation. Write small test programs to test out functions before you build the full programs.

A messages.txt file is provided

Objectives:

•practice declaring C++ variables with appropriate names and data types

•practice console I/O

•practice using C++ arithmetic operators

•practice using boolean expressions in flow-of-control statements

•learn and practice the strategy of incremental development

Requirements:

•your program source code must be documented correctly (see the starter.cpp example) 

•your program source code must be neatly and consistently formatted (see the starter.cpp example) 

•your programs must compile and run without errors 

•your programs must successfully read from and write to text files 

•                  reverse_sentence function implemented correctly 

•                     normalize_sentence function implemented correctly  

•                     replace_sentence function implemented correctly 

                   NOTE: Start small and get it working before you move on to a new feature. You have to follow the requirements to get credit
