Key Assignment

 

Both the operations manager and the warehouse manager have been impressed with your argument in making a case of supply chain management and quality management within the company. The operations manager in your department wants you to conduct a formal presentation to him and the rest of the floor staff to highlight the benefits of supply chain management. He has over 30 years of operational management experience with the company, and he is skeptical of any change. He has never used any type of supply chain management techniques or tools, but found your discussion on supply chain interesting. The warehouse manager has also expressed interest in having you conduct a similar presentation with a focus on quality management for his department and staff member at a later date. This is your opportunity to really pitch the advantages of implementing supply chain management and for designing a quality assurance process for these two departments within your company.

 

Part I

 

Develop a compelling presentation to the operations manager that will explore the benefits of implementing supply chain management on his floor.

 

Use the following format:

10–12 slides

Eye-catching graphics, clip art, charts, and models

A minimum of 200–300 words of speaker’s notes per slide

APA, 6th edition format for all citations and references

Content should include the following:

Create 2–3 slides covering 1-2 basic terms, 1–2 concepts, and 2–3 principles of supply chain management.

Create 2–3 slides providing examples of supply chain tools and techniques and explanations of how they are used.

Cite and explain 3 examples of how supply chain management has helped a company to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Citations and references must be given for all content sources.

Part II

 

Develop a presentation to the warehouse manager that will be used to promote the benefits of quality management for his department.

 

Use the following format:

10–12 slides

Eye-catching graphics, clip art, charts, and models

A minimum of 200–300 words of speaker’s notes per slide

APA, 6th edition format for all citations and references

The presentation should include the following:

Create 2–3 slides covering 1-2 basic terms, 1–2 concepts, and 2–3 principles of quality management.

Create 2–3 slides providing examples 3 of quality management tools and techniques and how they are used.

Cite and explain 3 examples of how quality management helps to decrease defects, rework, waste, and risk, while also improving safety, customer satisfaction, and quality and creating opportunities.

Tasks:

Read case study “What Decision Making Structure is Better for the Supply Chain as a Whole” in Bowon Kim: Supply Chain Management. Answer the following questions:

 

• Explain how you could use each of the decision making structures to improve a global supply chain.
• Describe how supply chain managers use these structures in the outsourcing decision.
• Which decision structure is the best overall?

Portfolio Project Assignment Choice #2: Employee Use of Internet At Work: Policy Proposals Your consulting services have been requested by the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. The CEO is concerned about the use of the internet at work and employs your consulting services to discuss her concerns. Primarily, she is concerned that employees might be abusing the internet and is wondering what repercussions the company might face in a variety of legal areas, specifically with respect to the legal environment of business, ethics, and human resources issues. She is also concerned with preventing abuse of the internet at all levels, from low-level employees to the Board of Directors. She requests a memo from you regarding: 1. Possible torts that could be committed by employees who use the internet at work 2. Possible crimes that could be committed by employees who use the internet at work (and indicate whether the crimes are white collar or blue collar) 3. Liability of the corporation versus liability of the individual employee through commission of tortsor crimes using the internet at work 4. Whether violations of the duty of care or duty of loyalty could exist through use of social media sites at work 5. Employee privacy rights or concerns that exist regarding use of the internet at work 6. Employment laws that protect the employee or the employer with respect to use of the internet at work.

Final Paper

Focus of the Final Paper

You are the manager of Acme Fireworks, a fireworks retailer who sells fireworks, puts on ground display fireworks, and large aerial display fireworks. The company started in the owner’s garage two years ago and now has 15 employees that you manage. The company started as a sole proprietorship, and the owner has never changed the entity. The owner has informed you that the company has received inquiries from several large businesses wondering if the company could create several fireworks displays on a regular basis. The owner told the inquirers that the company could fill such display orders, and a price per display was agreed upon. It was discussed that most of the cost for a fireworks display is for skilled labor, insurance, and the actual service of setting off the fireworks. No other details were discussed. The owner is anticipating that new employees will need to be hired, but he is worried that if the large orders for fireworks displays do not continue, the company will not have the funds to pay the new employees. The owner is now considering changing the business entity, but he does not know what entity to form or how to form it.

The owner has asked you to do the following:

• Determine if the contracts with the businesses will be governed by common law or the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), and explain why.
• Analyze whether the owner formed a contract with the businesses, and apply the five essential elements of an enforceable contract.
• Explain the potential personal liability to Acme Fireworks if a spectator is injured by a stray firework from a fireworks display.
• Discuss the different employment types and relationships relevant to agency law, and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each type specific to Acme Fireworks.
• Explain why Acme Fireworks should not operate as a sole proprietorship. Recommend a new business entity, and provide rationale to support your recommendation.

For each task, be sure to analyze the relevant law, apply the facts to the law, and make a conclusion.

Writing the Final Paper

The Final Paper:
Must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length (not including the title and reference pages), and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

1. Must include a title page with the following:
   1. Title of paper
   2. Student’s name
   3. Course name and number
   4. Instructor’s name
   5. Date submitted
2. Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
3. Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought. That is, describe what your response is to the content, either positive or negative, and defend your position. If multiple options, alternatives, and/or positions are present and are being rejected, you must also defend the reasons for rejecting an option.
4. Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
5. Must include at least five scholarly sources, two of which must be from the Ashford University Library, in addition to the course textbook.
6. Must document all sources in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
7. Must include a separate references page, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
