Success University (SU) is a medium sized undergraduate institution located in Southern California.  SU offers Associates and Bachelors programs in Business, Psychology and Education at their San Moreno campus and online. SU has decided to launch three new programs next Fall.

The three programs to be launched are:
1) A  Business Certificate in Leadership
2) An Associates of Science  (AS) degree in Business Administration
3) A Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration (BSBA) with a concentration in Organizational Leadership

The accrediting body of Success University has given the programs their blessing and the School of Business has been charged with launching the three programs.  They have created a team consisting of faculty, graduates, admissions staff, student services personnel and a marketing representative from the Corporate Office to assist in the launch of the programs.

You are tasked with bringing the team together, apprising them of their roles and responsibilities within the team and mapping out a timeline with deliverables.

You are to produce an executive brief of a 5 – 7 pages (not including the title or reference page) that clearly outlines the:

1.        Team plan: Your plan to create a cohesive team. Include at least three strategies you plan to use to ensure a unified team.

2.        Launch plan – a comprehensive list of steps (at least 6) describing how you will launch the new programs.

3.        Goals and Deliverables: Describe the goals you have set for this project and create a timeline with clearly marked deliverables.

4.        Evaluation and Monitoring: Explain how you plan to evaluate the progress of your team and individual team members – discuss the key strategies you will adopt to monitor your team’s progress and coach them to success. Examples might include weekly face to face meetings or written reports submitted to you weekly by each team member.

5.        Implementation plan: How do you intend to implement the launch plan? Discuss how the team will function and their roles during the implementation.

6.        Change plan: Create a strategy to deal with potential resistance from all stakeholders involved in the running and delivery of the new programs.  For example there may be a concern in terms of increased workload, having to learn new policies and processes and the speed of the planned changes.

Collaborative Planner

As we learned this week, it is critical to engage a diverse range of key players involved in planning for change in an organization or school.  For this assignment, you will create a collaborative planner that models the planner available in Step Six on pages 109-112 of the textbook.  For each of the 11 strategy areas (see shaded areas in the chart below for the first several examples), provide a description of your evidence or how you plan to address each area in your plan.  The Collaborative Planner is intended to assist in planning for meeting with your stakeholders to implement and proceed with your change efforts.

The description of your evidence should be written in narrative format in full sentences (not bulleted points) and should provide detailed evidence for how you will address each area.  Evidence should thoroughly explain how you will address each area and should reflect best practices for collaboration and stakeholder empowerment.  Use at least two sources outside of the text to support your evidence and plans.  Use APA format for all formatting, citations, and references.  This paper should be three- to four- pages in length.

Advanced Placement Multiple Choice Test Practice

The purpose of this assignment is to give you practice in reading very difficult passages. Your faithful and earnest completion of these assignments will result in improved reading skills. You will also raise your IQ, grow several inches taller, and become a much nicer person!

Process: I will give you a passage from an old test. Your homework assignment will be to read the passage and complete the questions below. On the day this assignment is due, you will turn in the assignment, and then answer multiple-choice questions over the passage

Your grade for the assignment will come from your completion of the written homework and your performance on the multiple-choice test. Because completion of the homework is crucial to success on the multiple choice test, you can make no higher than half-credit if the assignment is late.

This is a standard assignment that you will do at least once per nine weeks. Keep this handout in your notebook because I am only going to give it to you once. I will give you different passages each time; however, the process will be the same.

Answer the questions carefully and thoroughly.  You must use blue or black ink or type your responses.

Questions

1. Paraphrase the passage (summarize in your own words). Do this by paragraph, if the passage is organized into paragraphs. Be sure that your paraphrase includes all the important points in the passage.

2. Explain the passage’s central argument.

3. Write down and then explain two assertions that support the central argument.

4. Look up any words you don’t know the definition of. Write these words and their definitions. Remember that you won’t be able to use a dictionary on the multiple-choice test over this passage. If you leave this question blank and claim to know every single word in a passage, be prepared to prove that on a test.

5. Write down two examples of rhetorical strategies (one of the 3 appeals, any example of diction (word choice) or syntax (sentence structure), identify what kind of strategy it is (label the example) and then explain the effect of the rhetorical strategy.

Staple passage to the back of completed answers.
