Poll results are prevalent in the media, especially leading up to elections, as are reports on surveys done by universities and research groups.

The survey results of small groups of people are used to portray a general consensus about a population. Do you ever wonder how many people should be included in a survey to make it a meaningful reflection of a population? Now you will be able to answer your own question. After learning this, you might never feel the same about these polls and surveys again.

Using the following specific resources, create a lecture (with citations) that includes the following:

Part 1: Survey Analysis

Entertainment Survey

Using a newspaper article from the AIU library’s full-text database: Newsstand (ProQuest), create a lecture (with citations) that includes the following:

• Describe an entertainment poll or survey. Analyze the number of people who participated in the sample compared to the number in the population. Most news articles will not provide information on the number of people surveyed. In this case, critique the validity of the results. Part 2: Application

Create your own 3-question entertainment survey or using this General Opinion Survey or another free survey program or this link. Secure a minimum of 20 responses. Your survey respondents may be friends, family or classmates. (Note: The small sample size was chosen for convenience, and as you know, is not a valid sample. The goal is for you to create, deploy, and analyze a simple survey.)

Create Excel charts of your results and describe those charts in words. (You will receive no credit for charts that are copied from the survey software.)

According to the textbook, the current world economy is increasingly becoming integrated and interdependent; as a result, the relationship between business and society is becoming more complex. Use the Internet to research Apple. Use a tablet, smartphone, laptop, desktop, or traditional video recorder to record a maximum of a five to seven (5-7) minute dynamic video on the topics detailed below. Alternatively, you may submit a four to six (4-6) page paper instead of the video submission.

Note: If you are using a tablet or smartphone you will need to email the video file to yourself, then save it to a computer in order to upload to Blackboard. You may want to upload your video to a file sharing service, such as Dropbox, if your email will not let you send a large video file. Dropbox is accessible from all smartphones and tablets from the Dropbox app.

Once you are ready to upload your video to Blackboard, view the Kaltura video tutorial found in your online course shell (Week 4).

Prepare and present a video that is a maximum of five to seven (5-7) minutes OR write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

1. Specify the nature, structure, and types of products or services of Apple, and identify two (2) key factors in the organization’s external environment that can affect its success. Provide explanation to support the rationale. 
2. Suggest five (5) ways in which the primary stakeholders can influence the organization’s financial performance. Provide support for the response.

In an effort to control escalating health care insurance costs, many companies have been encouraging employees to voluntarily improve their health by offering smoking cessation classes, weight loss programs, exercises classes and health screenings.

 

But results have been disappointing, so employers are trying a different strategy – they require workers who smoke pay more for health insurance coverage. Companies like PepsiCo, General Mills, Home Depot and Whirlpool have adopted a “smoker’s surcharge” which range from a few hundred dollars per year to over $2,000 per year.

 

Employers have also begun to explore using this approach for workers who can’t seem to lower their cholesterol or lose weight. A 2011 survey conducted by HR consulting firm Aon Hewitt found that almost half of employers expect by 2016 to have programs that penalize workers for “not achieving specific health outcomes” such as losing weight, quitting smoking, participating in health screenings, or lowering their cholesterol.

 

In this discussion board, you are asked to approach this question from the employer’s perspective. In order to curb health care costs and provide disincentives for unhealthy behavior, should employers be able to charge more for health care coverage to employees who:

– do not take part in disease management programs to manage their cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes?

– do not participate in health screenings?

– do not lose enough weight to lower their body mass index to a healthy level?
