The warehouse manager thought a recent presentation on operations management was extremely valuable to the company. He now wants to shift the conversation to focus on his warehouse department. You told him a little about supply chain design and how it could improve inventory management. He is interested in hearing more about supply chain design and wants his department staff to also be aware of this valuable resource. He has asked you to create a memo that will be sent out to everyone in his department.

Draft a memo explaining to your warehouse managers how effective supply chain design could help to enhance profitability and stakeholder value for the company, including the following:

• Provide an analysis of the behaviors of supply chain networks and supply chain drivers in your memo.
• Explain how supply chain impacts distribution of assets and resources.
• The memo should include a visual representation of an example supply chain network using the “Shape” or SmartArt” option in MS Word.

You are the newly appointed department manager. Your department has not been performing well, and you have been investigating why. You soon realize that the firm has had no formal performance appraisal system. Supervisors that need to do a better job have not been receiving any kind of formal feedback.

To correct this situation, you will begin by creating a performance grading form that will be used to assess the front-line supervisor’s performance. Create a form that includes areas the supervisors should be graded on and the relative weight or importance assigned to each category. For example, should 30% of the weight be assigned to communication skills versus 20% for coaching skills?

You want to make sure that the grading form reflects what you feel are the indicators of a good front-line supervisor’s performance.

Create the form including the relative weights of each category and the grading scale to use (for example, for grading criteria you could use 1–9; low, mid, or high; or poor, mediocre, average, or excellent). Justify why you chose those criteria and why you assigned particular weights.

As you prepare for graduation, you will be deciding on either graduate school or job placement. For those students selecting the job process, there are many stages to consider, one of which is the interview. As a criminal justice major, you may pursue jobs in the law enforcement arena. During the interview process and training, law enforcement agencies may ask substantive questions related to ethics or officer trust. Although there are many professions that compel ethical behavior, the cornerstone of law enforcement relies on officer trust.
