Question 1:

Beginning in the 19th century, artistic movements carry the suffix “-ism” to their name (e.g. Realism, Impressionism, Expressionism).  Originally derived from Ancient Greek, “-isms” is appended to a word that then reflects a philosophical concept.  In the case of art, it comes to mean the philosophy or approach to art that binds a group of artists together. In 3 well-developed paragraphs select 3 “-isms” from the 19th and 20th century, a work of art that is representative of the -ism, and discuss:

What is the philosophy or approach to art that is defined by the –ism.

How is this philosophical underpinning of the style of movement visually reflected in your example?

Question 2:

The concept of creating art for art’s sake or its creation solely for a museum or gallery is purely a late 19th/20th/21st century concept.  As a result Modern Art often seems alien to many people—without content, a message or purpose.  But it can be argued that Modern Art visually reflects the complex and abstract ideas that we experience every day.  For example, if you were asked to paint how a lemon tastes, and not paint a lemon, how would you visualize the explosion of the juice as you bit into the slice? Its coolness? The tang and sharpness of the flavors?  Although Modern Art is not for everyone, it is often a key collection in many art museums.  As you consider the wide range of modern art types that are available to you, think of yourself actually visiting a modern art museum, and In 3 well-developed paragraphs discuss:

While you are visiting, what type of art will you most want to see and why?

What type will you put last on your list of “things to look for?”

Submit your final research paper to the M5: Assignment 1 Dropbox by Monday, March 23, 2015. It should include a cover page, abstract, intro/lit review, method section, results (simply report what statistics you propose to use), discussion section, and reference page.  

Your final paper should be double-spaced, 8 to 10 pages in length, and properly edited.

1. Cover page: Pay attention to APA style and refer to the example in your textbook.

1. Abstract: Is written on its own page and is a very brief summary of your study. Think in terms of one sentence stating your research question, one or two sentences regarding background and what we already know about it, one or two sentences regarding your methodology (e.g., how many participants were used and how were your variables assessed), and one or two sentences about your findings.

Final Paper

Select a foreign country and analyze its monetary system. Research the country’s monetary system using at least five scholarly sources, including a minimum of three from the Ashford Online Library. Your analysis should be an eight to ten page paper formatted according to APA style guidelines.

Address the following aspects in your paper:

• Analyze the evolution of the country’s monetary system, including the impact of any fiscal monetary and trade policies.
• Describe the major components of the monetary system, including organizations and financial institutions.
• Describe the currency exchange rates and any significant impacts on the exchange rates. 
• Analyze the issues around economic exposure, transaction exposure, and translation exposure.
• Recommend to investors whether they should buy or sell futures or options in that currency.

7. Must document all sources in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
8. Must include a separate reference page, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
