Senior Project Progress Report

Complete a two to three page (excluding title and reference pages) report on the progress you have made to date on your Senior Project.  You must use a minimum of three scholarly sources. Your report, and any citations used, must be in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Your progress report should cover the following:

1. Topic: Identify the topic that you have selected for your Senior Project and provide a brief explanation for why you have chosen to address this topic *This may be copied from the Week Two assignment if evaluated as Distinguished Performance. Otherwise, make adjustments per Week Two feedback.
2. Organization Specific Rationale: Provide a brief overview of the health care organization that you have selected for your Senior Project including a summary of the challenges and/or opportunities impacting the balance between health care costs, quality, and access to services that the organization is currently facing. The challenges and/or opportunities should directly relate to your rationale for why you have chosen your topic (i.e., training program) to help the organizational leaders manage this challenge/opportunity. Challenges and/or opportunities should be grounded in the research (e.g., web-based resources, electronic articles, or personal interviews). The more informed you are, the better prepared you will be to complete your Senior Project.
3. Training: Identify the audience for your training program and provide a brief outline of the topics it will address. Include a minimum of three to five learning outcomes that are targeted for your identified audience. Specifically, what do you want your audience to know and/or be able to do after they have completed training? How does this training program align with the overall challenges and/or opportunities that the organization is facing? Overall, how will the training program benefit the organization?

This assignment will consist of two parts.

Part I: IPO Presentation:

You work for a medium sized privately held electronics firm which is considering transitioning to a publically held organization. Your boss found out that you were taking business courses at Argosy University and has asked you to prepare a presentation for upper level management to explain the process by which a privately held company would transition to publicly held company.  He has asked you to  describe the general accounting processes involved in establishing an initial public offering (IPO), including but not limited to accounting for all assets, liabilities and equities of the firm. Prepare a 15-20 slide professional MS PowerPoint presentation which covers the following:

• Identify and explain the top five reasons private companies go public.
• Explain information the firm is required to provide to the investor with complete transparency.
• Compare and contrast the differences in accounting processes and procedures that medium sized companies such as yours go through when going public.
• Discuss any concerns you believe the company should guard against while transitioning from privately held to publicly held (shareholder apprehension, fair market value, etc.) and provide solutions to each concern.

Use the notes section in MS PowerPoint to explain your talking points. Use at least two charts and two additional graphics which support your points. Utilize at least three references (one of which may be your text) in your presentation. 

Common and Preferred Stock

Respond to the following independent issues concerning the capital stock of corporations in your initial post:

• Why are paid-in-capital and retained earnings displayed separately in the stockholder’s equity section of the balance sheet?
• Why would investors buy common stock when preferred stock is available?
• If you owned 5,000 shares of common stock in Microsoft Corporation and someone offered to buy the stock for its book value, would you accept the offer? Provide rationale for your decision.

Complete your portfolio assignment. In it, develop a plan to approach an “angel investor” for funding a new small business. Include at a minimum the following:

• an elevator speech
• pertinent business plan information for large capital asset requirements
• a determination of how much capital the company will need and in what time frame
• attracting venture capital and the benefits of “angel investors” over other forms of investment
• government aid available
• valuation of the small business
• based on the type of business you selected for your Project, evaluate legal issues such as the types of ownership, liabilities, and compliance with laws
• an accounting of how you applied the instructor’s feedback from your draft submitted in Module 5

Present your information in at least an 8-slide PowerPoint presentation with notes and reference page, or 8-page Word document, excluding the title, abstract and reference page. Whichever method you choose, cite at least 4 outside resources (.org and .com sites are not to be used, but books, journal articles, .edu and .gov sites should be considered as possible avenues for resource materials) 

Be sure that you have all of the necessary components as set forth in the portfolio rubric. Spend time to assure that the formatting complies with APA, and thoroughly proofread and grammar-check your final product. This, and all other course Portfolio Projects, will become an important part of your individual Program Portfolio.
