Portfolio

The first part of the deliverable will be an in-depth coverage in the form of a portfolio of all aspects of your emerging technology.

Your portfolio needs to contain, at least, all of these points:

• a description of your information technology, in both technical and non-technical (e.g. Dilbert’s Boss/elderly relatives) terms
• why you think the world needs your information technology – in other words, “what business/personal/environmental/health/financial, etc. problem are you trying to solve?”
• what sorts of users you envision having
• what (if any) current information technology it disrupts, and how (this could include inefficient methods currently in use to solve the problem you’ve posed)
• how you would integrate your information technology into existing technology systems
• your information technology’s effects in each (and all) of the following areas:
• • economic/business
  • social/interpersonal
  • cultural
  • environmental (include animal testing stance, if applicable)
  • ethical (include intellectual property considerations overall)
  • (if relevant) political/geopolitical
• a marketing plan, including social media presence. If you are considering crowdfunding (Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, Quirky, etc. this is where you would address that)

Creativity in the deliverable is a requirement, so include things like images (Photoshopped is fine), staged press releases, and fake breaking news clips, for instance. Pseudonyms are fine for this deliverable.

Also, because this is a new technology, you will need to go through the motions of filling out a pretend patent application, without actually submitting said patent application (or paying any money to the government or, worse, lawyers). It is perfectly fine to make up data for your patent application. The USPTO has patent applications, but good luck figuring out that system – you are free to improvise your own patent application (see the sample project for patent ideas – and feel free to copy that one’s patent documentation entirely)

If you will be implanting/ingesting/injecting the technology you will need to go through the motions of getting FDA approval, as well (don’t submit anything to the actual FDA – this is pretend). Again, make this up, based on things you can find on the Internet (the FDA site is a good start)

Pretend this portfolio will be shown to venture capitalists or angel investors. You need to convince them your information technology is worth investing in. Completeness in terms of addressing the issues mentioned above is the primary goal; creativity in doing so helps communicate your points better. Show your professor (and the class) that you’ve learned something during the term.

Because this project incorporates non-text elements, it’s hard to give an exact page or word count. If it were to be completely text based, you would be expected to turn in between 15 and 20 pages (assuming 250 words per page). Don’t stress about word counts or page counts, though – use the amount of space you need to address all the points. If you’re proud of what you’re turning in chances are you’re doing the right thing.

If you can find sources to back up what you’re saying, give those credit, using a consistent and complete style. As part of the creativity aspect of the project feel free to make up sources and cite them, too

You are a corporate compliance officer for a hospital.  You are also a feature writer for The Medical Reporter, an online health magazine.  The editor asks you to write an 8-10 page feature story about the steps you should take when fraud and abuse cases are reported to a facility. This is very timely as you recently received a call on your “hotline” regarding a potential fraud and abuse issue.  The caller indicated that Dr. Greedy was billing for services that had not been provided.  You are in danger of losing reimbursement for Medicare and Medicaid programs if this behavior is not stopped.   Your feature should address the ethical and moral components that healthcare providers and healthcare facilities face with fraud and abuse issues.  Your research should include the following aspects:

1. How to conduct an investigation.  It should include the following elements:

1. Reviewing the initial complaint: What are the items you should look for in a compliant to determine validity?
2. Notifying the appropriate upper management of the complaint unless they are implicated in the complaint: What are the steps to take to determine who is involved?
3. Obtaining additional information as necessary and developing a plan for the investigation:  What other items are important to the investigation?
4. Conducting interviews with staff, residents and/or management: Delineate the types of questions to ask in the interview.
5. Determining if the allegations are substantiated or unsubstantiated: Identify criteria to determine if substantiated or unsubstantiated.

1. How to develop a correction action plan. The plan may suggest:

1. A recommendation for a subsequent audit or follow-up to the complaint and determination of when this is necessary.
2. A recommendation to refund any overpayments to federal government, insurance company or individual payer and when that may be the best course of action.

Begin working on the project management plan by creating the outline of the document. Identify each of the sections and write a paragraph describing the contents of each section. Describe the level of formality for review and approvals of the project plan.

Refer to the scenario outlined in the Unit 1 Discussion Board as needed.

 The summative assessment for this course is a Final Paper that is due in Week Five.  For your Final Paper, you must demonstrate an understanding of a topic in psychology beyond the information presented in the course textbook.  Incorporate material from across the course, by describing and applying psychology knowledge as you integrate new research findings, into a cohesive and well-written paper.  This learning activity will facilitate the development of research techniques, critical thinking, and writing skills that are necessary to be successful in the field of psychology.  You may include personal experiences as examples to explain concepts and inform your audience.  
      
You will have already selected a research topic from the list below in Week Three of the course.  You must continue to use your selected topic.  The topics include:

• Does violence in the media contribute to violent behavior in children?

To begin, research the chosen topic using scholarly resources and craft a thesis statement regarding your selected topic.  For assistance with creating a thesis statement, visit the Ashford Writing Center or the Ashford University Library.  Your Final Paper must contain at least five references from scholarly sources that were published within the last five years and are cited according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.  Examples of scholarly sources include: peer reviewed journal articles, research studies, professional websites with authored material, and government websites.  Popular internet sites (Wikipedia, Newsweek, New York Times, etc.) are not considered scholarly sources.  

Then, address the following criteria as you write your Final Paper:

• Include a well-written introduction with a succinct thesis statement and a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
• Integrate research findings that address the selected topic.   
• Discuss the key issues and controversies surrounding your selected topic.
• Discuss multiple perspectives on the selected topic, so that the discussion is balanced and not one-sided.
• Include a summary and analysis of the findings from the research.  
• Include any additional research that could be done in the future, and provide solutions that could be implemented in the present regarding your selected topic.  
• Consider the cognitive and behavioral implications might play a role in your selected topic.  What learning principles could factor into the topic?  What theories of motivation and personality could influence your insights into the topic?  

Writing the Final Paper
The Final Paper:

1. Must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length (excluding title and references pages), and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
2. Must include a title page with the following:
   1. Title of paper
   2. Student’s name
   3. Course name and number
   4. Instructor’s name
   5. Date submitted
3. Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
