Assignment 2: IM / IT Analysis

Due Week 7 and worth 280 points

Write a five to six (5-6) page paper in which you:

1. Determine, within the health care setting, the main features, capabilities, and operational benefits to a health care organization using the following:
   1. patient care applications
   2. management and enterprise systems
   3. e-Health applications
   4. strategic decision-support applications  

Provide specific examples of each.

1. Assume that you are a senior health service administrator responsible for the health information systems within your organization, and create an argument to be presented to the leaders with the organization that a strategic plan is essential for the IM / IT. Indicate the most significant elements that the administrator should address in the plan. Provide support for the rationale.
2. Assess the importance of a systems development life cycle as it pertains to both the development of a custom application, coupled with the selection of proprietary systems. Provide an example to support the response.
3. Recommend the key element necessary to ensure secure access to health care and patient information within a health care management electronic system. Provide support for the recommendation.
4. Make at least two (2) recommendations for improving the application of systems theory to health care IM / IT governance and planning. Provide specific examples to support the response.
5. Use at least four (4) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.  

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

• Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
• Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

• Determine the main features and capabilities of patient care applications, management and enterprise systems, e-Health applications, and strategic decision-support applications within the health care setting.
• Analyze the process of developing a strategic information system plan and determine its basic components.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the systems development life cycle as it pertains to both the development of a custom application and the selection of proprietary systems.
• Assess the need for and determine the methods of accomplishing the security of information systems.
• Use technology and information resources to research issues in health information systems.
• Write clearly and concisely about health information systems using proper writing mechanics.

Assignment 3: Critical Reading & Thoughtful (Communal) Engagement

In order to write effectively in psychology, you need to learn to read critically and to observe how professional psychologists present their research to peers.

Once you have determined that the sources you are reading are solid and worth using (which is quite a challenge in and of itself), your quest becomes the articulation of a research question or working hypothesis that will guide the writing you do subsequently to your reading.

It definitely takes a certain amount of skill to be able to look at a journal article and pick it apart in order to determine things like the significance of the results and/or the soundness of the methodology. That said, it takes all the more skill to be able to take the ideas found in one or more journal articles and turn them into your own words, your own understandings, and your own synthesis of the works engaged.

But skill is not enough. You also need honest and timely feedback from others (e.g., your peers, your instructor, etc.).

Effective writing is done in community, meaning that it is not done in isolation. From start to finish, the more you include the careful scrutiny of your writing by others, the better off you and your writing will be.

For M1: Assignment 3 select one peer-reviewed article related to be your focal/research question.

Ideally, you will find this article by conducting an online library search in the AUO library specifying “peer-reviewed” as one of the search criteria.

When you have chosen your article, write a review/critique of the study.

Your review should include the following:

• The main topic and focus or thesis of the journal article.
• The argument the author is making and its relevance to the focal/research question.
• The type of article—published, original research, meta-analysis, or reflection piece.
• The key findings of the study.
• Your opinion about the merits of the study, including future points of interest or research.

Your review should be approximately 100-150 words in length, should contain proper grammar and spelling, and should follow APA format regarding structure (e.g., title page and references page) and citation of sources.

Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are two important rights individuals have in the United States. Today, there are so many news outlets featured on the radio, television, cable, and the Internet that are competing for our attention to the degree that some news media emphasize very sensitive and controversial subjects as a means to simply attract an audience. Some individuals criticize this practice as being harmful to society. Yet, others claim it is appropriate to report this type of speech in such a fashion.

Research the topic, Freedom of the Press, and write a research paper that explains your views on freedom of the press and whether this trend toward reporting sensitive topics does or does not have a negative impact on some work environments.

Make sure that your paper has the following components:

Introduction – State your thesis and the purpose of your research paper clearly. What is the chief reason you are writing the paper? State also how you plan to approach your topic. Is this a factual report, a book review, a comparison, or an analysis of a problem? Explain briefly the major points you plan to cover in your paper and why readers should be interested in your topic.

Body – Present your arguments to support your thesis statement. This should be one to three paragraphs in length. Conclusion – Restate or reword your thesis. Summarize your arguments. Explain why you have come to this particular

conclusion.

Your paper should be three to five pages in total length, using 12-point double-spaced Times Roman font using APA format.
