Through the use of strategic alternatives, companies may compete in a marketplace, achieve its vision, or if no vision has been articulated, decide where it might go and what it might achieve. Strategic alternatives do not consist solely of strategies, but rather bundles. Explain what elements comprise strategic-alternative bundles and why creating more than a few bundles is extraordinary difficult. Describe the six criteria that strategic-alternative bundles should meet and discuss why it is essential that good bundles have addressed all of the key strategic issues.

CRITICAL THINKING. Create a skills resume using the example on page 479. A skills resume emphasizes the skills you have used, rather than where and when you used them. Skills resumes are useful when you are changing fields; you want to combine experience from paid jobs, activities and/or volunteer work; you have gaps in employment; or you have education in a field in which you have not been employed. Skills resume may also include job history at the end of the document.

3. Write a Formal Letter:  Use Format on Page 136

INSTRUCTOR LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION: This is Assignment 27.11 Item “a”  Assignment 12.21, Item “b” (page 225). Write a letter directly to me (your instructor) and use the Fort Lauderdale campus address as my address (1900 W. Commercial Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309). In the letter you will ask for a letter of recommendation for a job or graduate school entry.  Be sure to include:

1. What information you would like to see included in the letter
2. Who to send the letter to
3. When the letter needs to received
4. Where to send the letter

4. Write an Email: Use Format on Page 230

Assume you have just completed an interview for a new job. Send an email thanking the person you met.  Be sure to reiterate any points that you want the interviewer to remember about you and your skills.  For  Formal Email Writing see page 230 for examples of how to format an email for professional inquiries.  Your submission should include all elements of the email: Address, Subject Line, Salutation, and Signature Block.   You can compose this on your computer and copy and paste a screen shot in a Word document, or compose it in a document that replicates an email format.

Unit V Research Paper

Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are two important rights individuals have in the United States. Today, there are so many news outlets featured on the radio, television, cable, and the Internet that are competing for our attention to the degree that some news media emphasize very sensitive and controversial subjects as a means to simply attract an audience. Some individuals criticize this practice as being harmful to society. Yet, others claim it is appropriate to report this type of speech in such a fashion.

Research the topic, Freedom of the Press, and write a research paper that explains your views on freedom of the press and whether this trend toward reporting sensitive topics does or does not have a negative impact on some work environments.

Make sure that your paper has the following components: BBA 3361, Professionalism in the Workplace 3

Introduction – State your thesis and the purpose of your research paper clearly. What is the chief reason you are writing the paper? State also how you plan to approach your topic. Is this a factual report, a book review, a comparison, or an analysis of a problem? Explain briefly the major points you plan to cover in your paper and why readers should be interested in your topic.

Body – Present your arguments to support your thesis statement. This should be one to three paragraphs in length.

Conclusion – Restate or reword your thesis. Summarize your arguments. Explain why you have come to this particular conclusion.

Your paper should be three to five pages in total length, using 12-point double-spaced Times Roman font using APA format.

Assignment Choice #2: Human Resources and Organizations

For this assignment, you will develop a PowerPoint presentation that demonstrates your knowledge of current trends in employee benefit programs, legal implications, and cost-containment strategies by providing a synopsis of the options being offered or considered by employers and the implications of each option.

In order to complete this assignment, you will synthesize all content from the week’s learnings. In addition, you are to utilize outside sources.

To effectively demonstrate your knowledge of the roles, functions, and competencies required in organizations, you must synthesize content from the reading assignments and module content. In general, the amount of content in this module can be summarized with 15 slides. Please support your observations and opinions with citations from 2-3 credible sources documented according to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements.

PowerPoint Slides should follow some basic formatting guidelines:

• Bulleted text should use the 7 X 5 rule: No more than 7 words per bullet, and no more than 5 bullets per slide.  This ensures the text can be seen from a distance (and keeps presenters from simply reading their slides.)
• Whenever possible, include an applicable illustration along with text.  An example is utilizing a table that illustrates employment statistics or trends.
• Use color intentionally: Simple is better.  The purpose is to summarize key points.  Don’t focus too much on bells and whistles, a lot of color, and animation.  While it’s fun to design with these tools, in the end, it takes away from your presentation.  Your audience will get lost in the “dazzle” and miss the content.
